happy halloween!
i’ve been thinking about all those poor kiddos on the east coast having to deal with the aftermath of sandy instead of going trick-or-treating. to all those affected by the hurricane, you’re in our prayers.
we were blessed with the most beautiful weather today in dallas. i wish it was like this every halloween. or better yet, every day! halloween in texas can be all over the place, but it’s generally really nice and warm until right before halloween, and then a cold front comes through and it’s freezing, just in time for the holiday. this year, the cold came just in time for saturday night, the one day that i planned on dressing up and going out. but i can’t complain too much, because it’s warmed up since then, and it won’t be too chilly for all the kids tonight. after all, who wants to wear a coat over their halloween costume? that’s no fun.
on this very day, i managed to find a trick and a treat [well, several treats, actually] that i’d like to share with you.
the trick: i woke up to a bad hair day, and although this is the one day that i might be able to get away with it, i decided to spare the office my witch ‘do and try something different. here’s what i came up with:
how i did it: first, i sprayed my hair with dry shampoo. i parted my hair on the side, and then separated the front of the larger side into two sections. i french-braided the first section, closest to the part, on the top, and then continued with a regular braid all the way down and secured it with an elastic. then i did the same for the next section, and sprayed both braids with hair spray. finally, i made a low, messy side bun, bringing both little braids across and into the bun, and added a giant black flower to cover up the imperfections.
this is one of the easiest hairstyles ever, and it takes advantage of hair accessories – my not-so-new best friends. add an accessory to distract from hair that’s not cooperating…it’s one of the wonderful things about being female, in my opinion.
…and the treat(s):
the first treat is actually more of a trick, and i found it on none other than pinterest [source here]. the idea: chop and freeze leftover candy, and use it throughout the year. you can add it to brownie batter, cookie dough, cake batter, milkshakes, ice cream, frosting, or pretty much anything else you can think of! coarsely chop it by hand, or use a food processor to finely chop.

i love to bake, and i also bought a ton of halloween candy just in case [haven’t gotten one trick-or-treater yet!] so it’s nice to have a use for it all besides fattening me up for winter.
and my other treats of the day:
{1. breakfast this morning… a flaky croissant handmade by the baking class last night. 2. nama still sends me a halloween card and a $5 bill every year. 3. & 4. spiderweb chocolate cupcakes and “brain” red velvet cupcakes at the office.}
{…and another annual halloween present from nama: popcorn! isn’t she the sweetest?!}
i hope everyone else is having a safe and treat-filled evening!
