dad arrived in seattle on monday, and we were so happy to see him! the first thing we did when he got there was visit mike at work and have lunch with him.
then, after dropping off dad’s luggage at the hotel, we did the most tourist-y thing you can do in seattle: we went up in the space needle. it was within walking distance of our hotel [we were staying across the street from mike’s apartment], and it seemed like something we just had to do while we were there.

while going up to the top is a bit overpriced, we didn’t have to wait in a terribly long line [we maybe waited 15-20 minutes at most], and you can stay up there as long as you want. we were glad we did it. despite the gray and cloudy weather, it was pretty up there and very cool to see the entire city laid out around us. mom had lived in seattle when she was little but was too young to really know her way around, but dad knew the city fairly well from his layovers, so he was able to point out where everything was. it was a great way for us to get our bearings before exploring the city on foot the rest of the week.

i only wish that it had been a clear day so we could see the mountains. on the days that the clouds burned off a little, it was amazing to see how many mountains surround the city. i have a great fascination with mountains, having spent pretty much my whole life living in flat texas. in these pictures, you can see a strip of blue between the clouds and the horizon line – the base of the mountains – and that’s about it. still, i loved it up there, and i guess we should be thankful that it didn’t rain!
