as much as i know i will enjoy having kids and doing the whole easter bunny/egg-dying/easter basket/egg-hunt festivities, there’s something about celebrating easter with adults that’s so refreshing and relaxing. i had good friday off, so i slept in a little that morning, packed up, and headed down to mansfield. nama also drove down on friday from hot springs, and i sure did enjoy spending time with her and mimi and my parents. we missed mike, as he had a project due early this week so he wasn’t able to come home for the weekend, but knowing that he will be moving to dallas in less than a month made it better. i’m so excited for him to get here!
anyway, the weekend was an egg-cellent [hehe, i know, i’m so lame]. but really, it was fab. the food, the wine, the weather, the company – they were all stellar. especially the company. because nothing is better than family, ever. and knowing that jesus died for my sins so that i might join him in his kingdom someday? it gets me every time. what was it like to be one of his disciples in those days, and to go through the pain of seeing jesus put to death and then feel the incredible joy and faith that must have washed over them when he rose from the dead? as much as the bible paints an amazing picture of it all, and as joyful and faithful as i feel today for being a christian and knowing what jesus did for us, i can’t fathom what that must have felt like then, being there to see it all happen. but it makes me want to rejoice rejoice REJOICE! praise the lord, for he is so very, very good!
and now, some shapshots of my weekend:
so yeah, as you can see, we didn’t eat well at all. ;)
this group is pretty darn good at putting together some fantastic meals. we all work together in the kitchen, and everyone brings something to the table, literally [i know, i know, second terrible pun of the day!!], so you can always count on some good food with this crowd.
on saturday, we visited to the fort worth botanic garden, hence all the flora in the pictures. it was the perfect way to enjoy the nice weather [although it was a bit crowded – everyone wanted their family easter photos taken in the garden! we saw a couple weddings too].
we went to church on sunday morning, and then we had easter dinner [more like linner. or dunch] at mimi’s. we had our traditional easter meal – ham, potatoes, deviled eggs, sweet pickles, green veggies, rolls, and fruit salad, plus a spring-y dessert [i made a strawberry pie], but i swear that it seems to taste better every year. and i just love sharing a meal with these people.
i hope you all enjoyed your easters as well!
