this pretty girl turned the big 2-5 at the end of april…
…and we celebrated last friday in fort worth. getting out of town on friday was a bit chaotic for me because of (a.) some work stuff that arose [if anything is going to happen, it’s going to be at 5 pm on a friday, naturally]; (b.) the friday afternoon dallas traffic [which is always horrid]; and (c.) the fact that i hadn’t packed yet, nor figured out what i was going to wear that night, nor wrapped angelica’s bday gift. nonetheless, i did finally get out of there [while meanwhile solving all the world’s produce problems via phone calls], drove to fort worth, and made it to the restaurant on time [with a few minutes to spare, even], and it felt so nice to actually be able to r e l a x and enjoy the evening.
which i did. the dinner was awesome – we ate at AF+B at west 7th, which turned out to be very trendy – or “new school” as people in my business like to call it – with an appetizing menu and fantastic food. i had the jack rose cocktail to start – blended applejack, fresh lime juice, and pomegranate grenadine – followed by the decadent entree of potato gnocchi with wild mushrooms, spring peas, fennel, radish, and pecorino. angelica ordered the peanut butter chocolate icebox cake with whipped cream, sea salt, and raspberries for dessert [complete with a bday candle, of course!], and i had a bite and would definitely give it a thumbs up as well. all in all, a great meal. after dinner, we walked over to capital bar, where we spent the rest of the evening listening to a live band and dancing and just having a grand time. happy quarter-of-a-century to angelica!
and then: sleepover at angelica’s, slept in the next morning, had bagels at yogi’s, ice cream sandwiches at sweet sammies. a.k.a. my kind of morning. it was so much fun to catch up with these friends and spend some time together.
{i stole these pics above from angelica – love the boy and girl pics!} :)
{the boys think it’s hilARIOUS to take selfies when we ask them to take a pic of us!}
after we got our ice cream sammie fix, i headed back home to dallas to get ready for a work party, which i so regret not taking any photos at. the senior VP of supply chain hosts a cinco de mayo party every year for our department at his beautiful home, complete with a mariachi band, yummy mexican food, and lots of margaritas and other adult beverages. i haven’t been able to attend the past couple years, and i was SO excited that i could finally go this year. and it was the perfect occasion to wear my new little mexican dress that mom got me from san antonio! my parents had brought me one from mexico when i was a little girl and i LOVED it and was so devastated when i grew out of it and mom gave it away [!], but she was sweet enough to get me an adult-sized version the last time she was in SA. and it has my heart.
anyway, the party was a blast, and i’m kiiiiiiinda feeling like a champ right now because between those events and a little impromptu cinco de mayo celebration with friends yesterday at the icehouse, i’ve been spending time with friends AND have managed to be productive these past few days. i have solved produce crises, gotten mother’s day and my grandma’s birthday all taken care of in terms of gifts and cards, laid out and got my tan on [sorta… it’s a start…], attended church, posted a couple of times on the blog, taken two quizzes for culinary school, and gone on a nice long run around the city. i’m slowly but surely getting back into shape. and what i mean is, my life is slowly but surely getting back into shape. :)
hope you’re all having a super week!
