just wanted to share some photos from a work trip i took last september. this one wasn’t produce-related [for once], but it was a newly weds seasonings course that i attended back when i was managing the seasonings category. we flew into little rock, arkansas on a tuesday morning, drove to horn lake, mississippi to visit the plant and attend the course, had dinner/went out in downtown memphis as part of the course experience, and then flew home on thursday evening. [that’s a lot of state-hopping for a less-than-72-hour trip!]
the course was so much fun – they did a really great job with it, especially for someone like me, who is new to the industry. we learned about all the different spices and herbs and got to practice identifying them blindly in food and beverage items using our senses, we matched a product using just a sample and an ingredient label, we developed a meat marinade, and then we participated in a culinary contest in which three different groups got to try their hands at coming up with a little meal using a variety of ingredients that they provided to us. it was such a wonderful experience. and memphis was great fun! we ate at the majestic grille, a restaurant in an old theater – a silent picture house, in fact, that opened in 1913. after hors d’oeuvres and a nice leisurely dinner, we watched some musicians perform at a saloon on beale street and then did some bar-hopping.

{so this happened. BUT i will have you know that everyone else did it before i did, so that makes it less crazy, right?} :)
{all the food we made in the culinary competition. that last picture is banana beignets. SO good!}
{crossing the mississippi + a really awesome book as a gift from hosts of the course.}
thank you for the fantastic course, newly weds!
