because i know just how much you all love my pointless ramblings [ha!], that’s where we’re going today. also, this post has about a 1:300 ratio of photos to words, so if you’re just hear for some pictures, i’m sorry to disappoint. BUT there is a pretty sweet song at the end [it’s actually a music video], so if those of you non-readers want to scroll to the end, i suppose i won’t be offended… too much… ;)
: : i briefly mentioned in this post [and maybe understated] that i’ve had some forgetful/unfortunate moments during the past week and a half… they’re what my mom referred to as “responsibility issues” in my school days, but for an adult this might imply financial irresponsibility or reckless behavior or something of that sort. and despite all the dumb stuff i’ve done this past week and a half, it’s nowhere close to that level, although still dumb enough to be slightly embarrassing. here’s what i’m talking about, in number order, because it’s too ridiculous not to share and apparently i like humiliating myself on the world wide web? either that, or i’m just hoping that by putting it all in writing, it will be the end of my dumb mistakes and dumb luck.
1. it started at our little family christmas – the weekend of the 20th – when i came back to dallas, i left not one but both of my chargers at my parents’ house. naturally i didn’t realize it until my phone had 5% battery left and it was 5 pm on a Sunday so i was panicked that the apple store was closed already. even though i was going home in two days, a friend was coming over the next day/i needed my phone for work stuff/i can’t live without my phone for 5 minutes… so i was ready to send out the SOS. LUCKILY the apple store is only like 5 minutes away and it was open until 6pm so i got my overpriced $20 USB before it closed and i couldn’t have been more glad about holding that little white cord in my hands.
2. i was in charge of the christmas dessert, but it totally slipped my mind that i was even making a dessert and therefore had no clue what i was making, until late at night on christmas eve, when i wasn’t even sure if the grocery stores would be open the next day. but they were, and what was almost a xmas without dessert, a.k.a. an epic fail, actually turned out better than planned – i made this dessert, which was such an epic HIT, and my family was calling it the best dessert they’ve ever had, which is saying something since we have many great cooks in my family who have made many, many fantastic desserts. i was happy they liked it so much and relieved that i could throw something together at the 11th hour. it’s not a cheap dessert to make, but it’s highly enjoyable and definitely worth the cost of some good chocolate and heavy cream.
3. there were lots of coming and going from my condo to my parents’ house over the holidays, which only exacerbated my “responsibility issues.” like the time when i specifically went to my house on friday to get stuff for our trip to hot springs on saturday so we wouldn’t have to stop on the way, and then i forgot my gifts that i’d made for my dad’s side of the family so we had to stop again anyway. yay.
4. i left two different computer chargers at nama’s house in hot springs [you’d think i’d learn! seriously]. i actually didn’t use either of them while i was there, but they were in a bag without a zipper and fell out without me realizing it. OF COURSE. but my sweet grandmother put them in the mail for me that day, thankfully.
5. and THEN my computer – the only one that i had the charger for – got the mother virus of all viruses and i literally tried everything to get rid of it, only to have my brother come over on new years eve and fix it… and make it look easy… at 3am… when there was no shortage of alcohol pulsing through his system. i mean, i want to hate him for his brains but he’s just too handy to have around. ;)
6. the icing on the cake – i lost my debit card on NYE. go me.
i sure hope i’m done.
: : debit card mishap aside, my NYE was such a fun night! my brother and several of his friends who go to A&M came over and we had dinner at a new restaurant in west village called eureka. then my friends katlyn and ryan came over and we all had a champagne toast at my house [or a few] and we all went out together. mike and his friends stayed at my place so they wouldn’t have to drive home, and i enjoyed getting to know them better. i love to think of myself as the “cool big sister” who my brother wants to hang out with and introduce to all his friends, but let’s be real: my condo’s convenient proximity to all the bars might have something to do with it. ;)
{this was the only picture i took all night. ugh. i’m sick of selfies, but when i don’t take any other photos, they’re all i have to post. my new years resolution is going to be to take more pictures with the people i’m with.}
: : new years day really couldn’t have been better… okay, i lie– it could have been better without the morning-after effects of alcohol. but thankfully mike and i got to sleep in until practically noon, and after that, the hangover was pretty short-lived. everyone else had already left, so mike did some maintenance work on my computer [gosh, i love him. that’s one way to get your sister to gush over you – fix her broken computer], while i popped the advil and cursed my age for bestowing upon me the inability to have more than two drinks without paying for it the next morning. and then, miraculously i felt better! [that stuff called advil really is something, isn’t it?? oh, and WATER.] so mike and i went to malai kitchen to have our fave – thai. we shared the best two dishes on the menu, the stir fried glass noodles and the drunken noodles, plus we each got their peach ginger detox green iced tea, which is so tasty and seemed to be very effective at detoxing, or at least relieving the hazy head that results from being up past 2am for someone who usually goes to bed at 11.
{i heart malai kitchen.}
and then mike went home and i spent the rest of the cold, dreary day in long underwear and my thickest socks and a furry jacket next to the fire, sipping tea and watching sex and the city season 1 and legally blonde, and catching up on my blogs and satisfying my pinterest addiction. all. day. long. i was one happy girl.
: : dolly python, you rule. that is all.
{here’s one of many reasons why.}
: : i have friends coming in town the next three weekends and i’m pretty thrilled about it.
: : every now and again, i just meet the best song. you know, the kind that just makes you smile and feel totally in love with life. well, that happened this week. here it is – have a listen and then just try to prove me wrong!
that’s all i got, folks. enjoy the rest of your weekend!
