i know it’s been a while since i posted part 1 of lucky does dallas, but i’m finally back with the rest of my adventures with the luckster. hopefully it will give you some ideas for some activities to do with your canine companion in dallas [and most of this stuff would be fun without a pup too!].
{the first thing we did on saturday was start off with a nice long walk in the neighborhood. “lucky, this is kung fu, where all the drunk people go to play games.”}
{loving those world cup flags at BBC}
{the cutest telephone booth, again at BBC. lucky wanted to phone home but i was worried he’d get homesick so we kept walking. ;) and possibly my favorite mural in dallas – it’s a t-rex picking up the perot museum.}
{lovely uptown dallas in springtime there on the left. and on the right, we checked out the pooch patio, which i had heard serves coffee and is also a little dog store/grooming place. it had a nice spacious patio area and seemed like a friendly place. i got my coffee, but unfortunately lucky HATED the place because, well, it smelled like his groomer. he was crying and pulling to get out the door and practically having convulsions… he’s such a drama king, but i’m kind of with him on this – who wants to get coffee at a place that smells like a dog groomer?}
{after he recovered from his panic attack, and i promised him that i wouldn’t make him go back}
{next, i took him shopping. i mean, we were in dallas after all. we started at the lucky dog barkery… with a name like that, you know it’s gotta be good!}
{he was pretty pumped.}
{and he ended up loving it. and i did too! they had the most unique toys and treats and all kinds of other dog stuff, all displayed to look adorable.}
{he picked out the treats he wanted and didn’t waste any time turning on the cute… and of course i gave in!}
{we went to sprinkles for a snack since it was right across the street.}
{i have yet to try their ice cream [it’s on my to-do list!], but they have a cupcake ATM which is perfect for getting a sweet treat when you have your dog with you. you pick out what kinds of cupcakes you want on a touchscreen, pay for them, a window opens, and there are your cupcakes in cute little boxes!}
{a coconut cupcake + a doggie cupcake}
{he was very curious…}
{…but when i told him that i got him some doggie cupcakes, he didn’t even believe me at first. we’re pretty strict about not giving him people food at home.}
{i didn’t know if he would like it because we all know how picky he is from the adventures the day before. but as soon as he had his first taste, he decided that he LOVED cupcakes. he licked the frosting a bit, then bit into it, taking bigger and bigger bites until he had finished the whole thing off. he wanted the other one too, but i convinced him that we should save it for later. and he totally had an audience by the time he had finished his cupcake because the people walking by couldn’t get over his cuteness. i wish i got that kind of attention!! ;) but i felt like a great sister to be able to introduce him to such a wonderful thing in life. and we must be brother and sister because he has the same love affair with cupcakes that i do!} ;)
{the coconut cupcake is the best cupcake that sprinkles makes, in case you were wondering. this is your cupcake connoisseur speaking.}
{cuddles for this one. he was being such a good boy.}
{and then i took him to petsmart since it’s one of his favorite places to shop.}
{that afternoon, the two of us chilled out on the couch and watched bend it like beckham in honor of the world cup, just for fun and a little relaxation time.}
{and then it was time for our next adventure!}
{we met mike and dylan at steel city pops, the best little popsicle shop on lower greenville.}
{i got hibiscus, and it was sooooo good. mike got banana, and dylan got cherry sour cream.}
{the only thing steel city pops could do better is make popsicles out of plain water for the dogs! luckily it wasn’t terribly hot and we weren’t here long.}
{we went to truck yard next, which is an awesome backyard-style bar with trailer park decor and food trucks lined up around the perimeter…}
{…but it was crazy packed and we wanted to find somewhere we could watch the world cup game. it’s a fun place to bring your dog, but when the weather is nice, it can be very crowded. if your pup gets nervous with big crowds, i would recommend going on a weeknight or something. lucky did pretty well for the short time we were there, but i kept worrying he would get stepped on so i’m glad we didn’t stay that evening.}
{we ended up at the londoner, a pub with a cozy little patio – the perfect place to watch soccer. lucky got his own little water dish and we had our beers, and it was a nice, relaxing time.
{after the game, we took lucky back home and mike’s girlfriend priscilla came over and the four of us went for one last drink at the rustic, a kitchen+bar with huge backyard and a stage for live music. this is another great place to bring a pup, but lucky dog was plumb worn out, so he stayed home this time around. i was excited because dovetail, a cool dallas band that noelle and i had discovered at deep ellum’s big folkin’ festival, was playing there that night.}
{and guess what else happened at the rustic that night?? i tried “calf fries,” a.k.a. calf testicles, for the first time! they’re on the menu at the rustic so dylan ordered them and we all tasted them. i couldn’t believe it, but they were actually good!}
{the next morning, lucky dog and i took a walk on katy trail. for those of you who don’t know, katy trail is a 3.5 mile walking/jogging/cycling path that runs through uptown and oak lawn in dallas. anddddddd i love love love this picture of lucky – he looks like he’s dancing in that sunshine and so excited to be on a walk.}
{good morning uptown!}
{on the trail}
{this little dog loves katy trail ice house. [you’ve probably heard me talk about the ice house before – it’s a casual outdoor bar that’s right off the trail. people literally come after their workout, sweaty, in full-blown workout clothes, and grab a beer. it’s awesome. they also keep water along the trail available to the exercisers and their dogs]. when we stopped for a drink of water, he just stared, fascinated. and then he tried to pull me inside! since then we’ve been several times with him.}
{katy trail}
{reverchon park}
{adventure dog}
{he’s my favorite little fella}
{and then soon after, it was time for mom and dad to come pick him up!}
we had such a fun weekend! lucky, you can tell mom and dad that they can go out of town anytime! :)
