given the fact that it’s almost MAY and i haven’t gotten around to posting pictures from march, it’s safe to say that this spring has been even more busy than i’d anticipated. it’s been good, mostly, minus my culinary school classes this semester [three of them!] which aren’t terrible but also aren’t my favorite… especially all the outside-of-class projects and assignments and group work, and i pretty much always feel like i’m just scraping by, by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin [yep, just used that phrase], on just about everything. not a comfortable feeling for a type-A-er, but there are always lessons to be learned, and i’ve convinced myself that refusing to give up my social life > the stress that comes from procrastination, and the panic of doing things at the last minute + having to be very efficient in completing assignments = character building. see how i do that? ;)
and despite the busyness of school and life and my subsequent lack of blogging, i really can’t complain. things are good. it’s been one of the most interesting years yet thus far, in evvvvvvvery way. and i’ve quite enjoyed it. march seems like ages ago, to be honest, because so much has happened since then, but i’ll try to lasso in that long-term memory and recall what went down because the year’s not getting any younger! here goes:
{march started out with fireplace weather and lots of studying…}
{and march 7th was mike’s 22nd birthday! although i wasn’t with him on his actual birthday, we were able to celebrate a couple weeks later. love him so much!}
{i guess i’m official! and ramen with my co-worker at one of our favorites, ramen hakata in addison.}
{this little guy stayed with me a few days while mom and dad were out of town, but it got really cold and rainy right when he got here and he’d just gone to the groomer and had no fur coat to speak of. so i did what any good sister would do and searched all over town to find him a nice manly-looking sweater, but had no luck. SO i went to the baby section of target and found him a t-shirt and apparently he’s exactly the same size as an 18-month-old child. he rocked the b-ball tee all week, and although i’m not usually a fan of animals in clothes, there are times when it is both necessary and cute, and this, to me, was it.} :)
{who can resist that pitiful little bundle of cuteness huddled on the top of the couch?? but really.}
{fried cactus at the rustic with rebecca! and we both ordered pie, took a couple of bites, and then took the rest home to eat for breakfast. this one was super rich and huge, so i got the bonus of two breakfasts out of it!}
{lucky’s haircut was kinda funny this time around, and everyone said he looked like a little lion… but with that t-shirt on, i think he looked like the spitting image of a berenstain bear! amiright???}
{stumbled upon this bible sitting on the ledge as i was running by the cemetery, and it made me happy. it might be just the thing that someone needs on this day. and those blooming trees are trying to convince the other trees that it’s spring…}
{jambalaya for dinner!}
{the scarlet begonia and henry’s marrow spiked burger at henry’s majestic. got to catch up with mike and priscilla!}
{sitting in traffic and wishing i could snag a little something from this firemans #4 truck… and dinner with noelle at whiskey cake! she was in town for work [again, yippee!], and whiskey cake is definitely a tradition of ours.}
{fried green tomatoes and the best bahn mi.}
{world bartending championship at the house of blues!}
{two perks of my job: getting to sleep in on friday morning after a fun night at the world bartending championship the night before, and ice cream. or whatever we happen to be tasting that day.}
{my favorite drink at my favorite little speakeasy is the one with the flames in a hollowed-out lemon half. but don’t ask me the name of the bar because i’ll never tell.} ;)
{…and from another night at “my” bar [i love thinking of it as that!] – i had the elizabeth taylor. in this photo, it looks gold/greenish, but in real life it was a gorgeous ombre violet color, made so with lavender bitters and lavender simple syrup, named after taylor’s famous violet eyes. it was wonderful.}
{signs of spring!}
{so march wasn’t ALL fun and games… this happened [just over a hill in the right lane of the tollway at 4 pm when people are driving like maniacs to try to get home before rush hour… one of the scariest moments of my life], and then my car battery died, within a couple weeks of each other. no fun. reality, man.}
{i live for these mornings.}
{salads from public school 214 – tuscan chop salad and mimosas with noelle and sandro, because SUNDAYS. and the roasted beet salad for dinner with katlyn and alex one night.}
{with the sun in my skirt.}
{lunch at bistro N with mom and mimi… i had the tomato jam jar + brick oven brussels sprouts with herb butter and was in complete heaven.}
{said brussels sprouts that were miiiiiighty delicious. and if i had my way, i’d live at anthropologie. i could probably live off this cucumber water and these cookies, too.}
{trying on wild sunglasses and being silly. i love these two.}
{sunday brunch: afghani eggs on the rooftop of nora.}
and that was march in a nutshell. give me a week, and hopefully i’ll be ready to post on april! xo
