oh hey may! you sure flew by. i feel like i’m still standing in a cloud of dust, waiting for it all to settle, while meanwhile life is spinning circles around me. but what else is new? ;)
may was a lot easier than april, which i’m thankful for. a lot going on [as usual], but it was a fun one. i’ll jump right into it all since i feel like i’m always racing the clock these days in some way or another…
{at the very beginning of the month, katlyn and i went to an aggie crawfish boil that the texas A&M club of dallas hosts every year. i was surprised by how many people i saw that i knew there and it was such a blast!}
{the caption here reads: “serve cold with good friends… or alone in bed with a textbook. either one…” :) alternate caption: “when it’s 10 pm and you just got home from work + class [for that ‘extracurricular’ degree you’re getting] where you just had your second big presentation of the week, and now you have to go study for a final exam that you’re taking after work tomorrow… sometimes studying looks like this.” so yeah.}
{the end of this semester of culinary school and i really couldn’t be any more happy about it!}
{throwback thursday from our college dayz, when every day was a pool day… i loved getting to see thomas when he came into town this month and it was fun to meet some of his other dallas friends.}
{…and another throwback… julee has been such a wonderful friend to me over many years. i love her dearly!}
{happy birthday to mimi! still as fabulous as ever!}
{the adorable old courthouse in granbury, tx – uncle mark had come to dallas the weekend of mothers day to celebrate mimi’s birthday, so we took him to granbury so he could see a small texas town! okay, we really just wanted to go to the brewery there, but we’ll pretend that it was all about dat small town lyfe.}
{granbury is such a cute little town.}
{inside one of the little coffeeshops there… and one more of that courthouse because i couldn’t help it.}
{we loved visiting revolver brewing co and trying their beers! and i see you, aggie flag. #thanksandgigem}
{it was a great afternoon.}
{we didn’t plan this. the weirdest part was that before we picked up mimi/knew what she was wearing, i came downstairs wearing this striped shirt and mom said, “i almost wore my striped shirt that looks a lot like that! glad i didn’t!” we are three peas in a pod, that’s for sure!}
{i love breakfast at my parents’. especially when it includes berries. and i don’t always eat burgers… but when i do, i do it well. this one had a pretzel bun, mushrooms, and goat cheese. courtesy of twisted root.}
{pretty cool sunset. these pictures remind me of why i loved growing up just outside of city limits.}
{i posted this picture on mothers day of my mom and me in jackson square in new orleans in 1990. i’m so thankful that she taught me the joy of traveling the world and encouraged me to follow my dreams andddddddd i’m very lucky to be her daughter.}
{celebrated these two lovely mothers on mothers day, and we wish nama were here to celebrate too!}
{mom and her children}
{unfortunately dad had to fly on mothers day, but mike had come home from school, so the four us celebrated by going to the cacharel for brunch.}
{on the left, a duck confit turnover served with pears, dates, & belgian endive on a pear williams sauce. on the right, pan-fried filet of white chilean sea bass served on a bed of ratatouille with a saffron butter sauce.}
{…and a raspberry tart for dessert, which you can never go wrong with in this crowd!}
{i took a short work trip to idaho falls. i was actually excited to check another state off my list that i hadn’t been to before, and idaho turned out to be quite pretty.}
{i was pretty fascinated with the mormon temple on the other side of the river… i don’t think i had ever seen one before.}
{…but isn’t it a bit ironic that this bar overlooks the temple??}
{on the left, a topgolf afternoon outing with the team… so much fun! and on the right, well, not to brag or anything, but i kiiiiiinda make the best egg sandwich ever. not healthy, just DAMN good. buttered english muffin on the griddle + a homemade sausage patty that beats anything you’ll ever buy at the store + melted cheddar + a fluffy folded egg with chives + a dash of cholula + a drizzle of honey = a warm, gooey, melty, sweet-and-hot mess of deliciousness that might just make you fall in love… it’s that good.} ;)
{pineapple rompers make me swoon.}
{oh hey dallas. this was a fun night at NYLO with my friend laura and her crew!}
{it’s starting to feel a lot like summer… sangria at the common table on the left, and on the right, i got those jalapeño cheddar sausages from work, so i cooked up some pickled red cabbage & onions and made some overnight pickled cukes [both inspired by my recent trip to denmark], and added some stubb’s BBQ sauce and a wheat bun. served with a german-style pilsner of course.}
{another throwback because mike GRADUATED in may! woohoo!}
{gettin’ our mexican sugar on with my work people one day for clayton’s birthday. on the left, queso blanco made with three mexican cheeses, toasted dried chile & cilantro + roasted salsa + arepas – griddled corn cakes, slow-roasted barbecue, slaw & cilantro crema. and on the right, TACOS!}
{carnitas, barbacoa, & pescado. plus some brussels sprout shred. and too bad i didn’t get a photo of the cake before he blew the candle out!}
{my blooming magnolia tree!}
{gettin’ crafty thanks to this tutorial}
{on the left, i captured this hot second of sunshine at my parents’ house since it rained pretty much the entire rest of the month… also wanted to say happy 29th anniversary to my darling parents… you’re my real sunshines. :) and on the right, much of my time these days looks a bit like this – at my computer in a hotel room – but i’m fortunate to be visiting lots of interesting places and learning a lot.}
{i’m not sure when this photo was taken but i found it on my phone and i thought it was tooooo cute, so it’s going here. killing it since may 25, 1986.} :)
{this year, we didn’t have good weather for memorial day, but the final close of the day couldn’t have been more beautiful. i’m thankful for all the men and women who served or are serving our country, and especially those who have lost their lives.}
{i finally got to try dallas grilled cheese co! i met rebecca there for dinner one friday and then we had a grand time walking around bishop arts afterward…}
{i got JK’s favorite. obviously. so good!}
{and after we perused the shops, we ended the night with s’mores at tillman’s! best decision ever.}
{homemade marshmallows [both maple- and strawberry-flavored], dark chocolate bark, and cinnamon graham crackers. umm, heaven?!}
so may wasn’t too shabby and we’re already hot and heavy into june… big adventures to come! xo
