AND i’m back. with more travel adventures, of course! two days after i got back from this trip to monterey, it was time to go again. this time, i headed waaaaaay up to the northeast. we flew into boston and then drove for quite a few hours up to the middle of nowhere maine, just a hop, skip and a jump from canada [literally, a couple of miles from new brunswick]. and why in the world were we going there? you ask. well. we went for 1.) potatoes and 2.) a fantastic lakehouse deep in the trees. and what an adventure it was! it all started with the long drive up to maine – the last two hours of the trip were all dirt roads in the woods with no other cars or people or buildings in sight. it was pretty crazy. we would have never found it if we were by ourselves, but thankfully the suppliers who were hosting us picked us up and drove us there, and just when we were beginning to wonder if there really was a lakehouse, we turned down a little tiny road and there were a handful of the cutest little homes, nestled right up to the most still, peaceful lake i’ve ever seen [i’m not even sure it had a name… lake #9, i think it was called?] and separated by thick stretches of trees so that a person in one house could go about life without ever knowing that the next house even existed. we spent two nights at this wonderful little place…
{the lakehouse was a gorgeous cape cod style home}
{i couldn’t get over it all…}
{the lakehouse was spacious and absolutely beautiful.}
{doesn’t it look like someone is going to bust out a football and start up a nice friendly family game any minute now? it was that sort of place – it felt like something from a movie. and our supplier’s family treated us like family, which was so very nice of them.}
{selfies}
{twist my arm}
{on an evening boat ride}
{apparently red hotdogs are a maine thing. also, canadian ketchup!}
{sparklers by the campfire!}
{my coworker morgan and i stayed in the cutest little cabin next door. this was my room for the couple of nights we were there. cute, right?}
{we woke up to this!}
{…and then the guys made us the best breakfast. eggs, sausage, bacon, english muffins, and the freshest, BEST potato pancakes ever!}
{we took a ride on the can-am up to the top of the mountain after breakfast. that little blue lake is ours!}
{that awkward moment when your coworker has a condensating water bottle sitting in his lap the whole ride up the mountain so it looks like he wet his pants!!} ;)
{potato fields!}
{look at those cute little bitty potatoes!}
{while we were visiting the potato fields, we each got to take turns driving this baby… it was pretty awesome.}
{after the fields, we had a lovely lunch with our supplier’s family. those potatoes are some of the best i’ve had!}
{and lobster rolls!}
{back at the cabin}
{this was no ordinary cabin…}
{…my favorite part about it was the loft, which had beds built into the alcoves for each of the grandkids with their own reading light and everything! and lots of homemade signs up that said, “KEEP OUT!” so cute.}
{sorry little guys, but i can’t wait to eat you for dinner…}
{…and then we had the best lobster boil / clambake!}
{i was in complete heaven.}
{i didn’t know that it could get any better, but then s’mores happened…}
{after dinner and s’mores, we took a little ride through the woods in the can-am with the guys. they told us to “look scared” for the pictures, but in all honesty, to say that i was nervous would not be off-base. i’m pretty sure i have extremely high amounts of whatever chemical it is in the brain that makes you a risk avoider/not crave that adrenaline rush. and they were driving like crazy people through a pitch-black forest, so…}
{the next morning, we started the long trek back to boston. before we parted ways with our supplier, we had lunch with them at this diner-type place that was surprisingly really good. i was pretty satisfied with my lobster roll, my favorite fries [the same ones we’d had the other day, made by our supplier], plus a whoopie pie for the road. can’t go wrong.}
{we got to boston in the late afternoon and ended up meeting my coworker kathleen’s family for dinner that night since she’s from boston. it was a really nice time! then the following morning, we set out to explore boston before our afternoon flight. we started at fenway park!}
{quincy market}
{the old state house, surrounded by skyscrapers}
{we went to paul revere’s house! and then kind of made our way around the freedom trail.}
{on the left, the old north church.}
{oh, bahhhhston} :)
{one of my favorite parts of the day was getting to stop at ye olde union oyster house. it opened in 1826 and is the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the united states!}
{the biggest lobster i’ve ever seen! i love that he brought it out for us!}
{bloodies and crab cakes!}
and after that delightful meal, we headed to the airport and that was the end of our northeast adventure. my job isn’t rainbows and unicorns all the time, but gosh, i’m a lucky girl to get paid to do things like this. and thank you SO MUCH to our wonderful potato supplier for making it such a grand trip and for your partnership!!
