i tend to hibernate in winter, so it’s no surprise that i have a few less photos from january than a good majority of the others, but it was a good month for sure. i really can’t believe how fast it went – i blinked, and january was already a speck in my rearview mirror, the month of february upon me, threatening to pull the same trick. it was a fabulous start to the year, though, and i sure do adore 2016 so far. i’m feeling happy and content and just in love with life in general. here’s what’s been going lately:
{this lovely lady got four tickets to the mavs game from a supplier, so she invited me and a guest to come with her and noely. i brought my go-to date – my brother of course!} ;)
{the crew! noel and linda, mike and me}
{i snapped these photos on a run with the caption: “it’s a sad but very fragrant state of affairs at this time of year in uptown. #goodbyechristmastrees.” RIP ye who bring so much joy during the holidays…and who smell like all my winter dreams.}
{the day in which i took a million selfies because i was trying a new hairstyle as part of my 2016 style goals… this started with a french braid and turned into a fishtail braid which turned into an updo…}
{…and these happened sort of because of the hair but mostly because i love my bottle-clad mantle and this mirror so much…}
{i was totally killing it with the throwbacks in january. here are some really fun times with our sweet poppy. AND mike’s first time playing tennis which is just about the most precious thing i’ve ever seen.}
{…there’s more! on the left, tiny baby mike and me with aunt cindy…and on the right, we’ve been adventuring from a young age.} ;)
{…and finally, on the left, shoveling snow around age three? and on the right, ON THE OTHER HAND, when it’s cold out these days, you’ll find me posted up next to the fire with my wine and netflix. and heaven forbid that i have to actually go outside, i may be in a cozy tracksuit that i didn’t even remember that i owned? plus fur.}
{from an afternoon in bishop arts with a couple of my faveys, kristen and becca. i’m so happy that we share mutual viewpoints on life, love, and food.}
{a mini photo sesh.}
{sometimes you’re in your favorite candle shop, which also happens to be your BFF’s favorite candle shop, and you find the perfect card for him so you take a selfie and send it to him.}
{the big news of the month [which i think i may have mentioned before?] is that i need glasses! only for seeing far away and i don’t have to wear them all the time, but since i’ve never had them before…well, i was secretly [or not so secretly] really, really excited. i’m a little warby parker obsessed, so i wasted no time getting my butt over to the brick and mortar store off knox henderson to try some on, and then promptly ordered five free pairs to try on at home for a few days. and then i [of course] took selfies in all of them…}
{pair #1}
{pair #2}
{pair #3}
{pair #4}
{pair #5}
{i tried out the different pairs while on a brother-sister date at serious pizza in deep ellum…}
{…and then we indulged because that was definitely some serious pizza! in fact, i’m STILL having dreams about spicy italian sausage, garlic, and banana pepper pizza [it’s a problem]. but as a side note, we also had a great belgian brew at anvil pub. still wanting to get there for sunday brunch to try this epic, profanity-denominated bloody mary.}
{anyway, back to the glasses. it was so fun getting to wear them around for a few days. here’s the resident grilled cheese maker, at your service. since mike mysteriously shows up at my house verrrrrry hungry, every single time.}
{then shiner wanted to try on the glasses…}
{…and one thing led to another, and before i knew it, it became a whole family affair. hashtag we’vebeenwarbyed}
{with much deliberation, i decided on the pair above. i ended up ordering them from the brick and mortar store since they could do my measurements for me. and they came in the mail and i’m in love with them! the at-home try-ons are a brilliant concept, warby.}
{i’ve been trying to change it up lately in regards to lunch/snacks at work. on the left, one of my favorite lunches – roasted garlic country-style bread with goat cheese, bitter greens and prosciutto. and on the right, star fruit for a snack.}
{another fabulous work lunch – i ran to the korean grocery store and bought some sashimi, and then i made 90-second microwave basmati rice and added seasoned rice vinegar and topped it with salted fresh avocado and the fresh salmon and tuna from the korean grocery store and added some soy sauce. now THIS is lunch.}
{speaking of the korean grocery store, i’ve become a bit addicted to their steamed dumplings with spicy sauce and pickled radish. i always get half kimchi dumplings and half vegetable. they are amazing.}
{and i got to see this beautiful girl this month!}
{i met her in denton and we had a yummy lunch at LSA burger co and then got coffee and spent hours catching up. old friends are the best ever.}
{best friends for life!}
{a family friend of ours, susan, got married in january. she made a gorgeous bride and it was so fun to catch up with more old friends at the wedding. also, i love my mama. and we BOTH love our sparkles and sequins.} :)
{mother and son. aaaaaaand if you haven’t noticed, my recurring date is my brother, because his girlfriend is in med school and my boyfriend is imaginary.} ;)
{my people. i can’t tell you HOW MUCH i love them.}
{from brunch at remedy… this was mike’s chicken and waffles. crispy friend boneless thighs in a sweet + spicy sauce over buttermilk waffles with pickled blackberries and blueberries, TX honey butter and vermont maple syrup.}
{BUT let’s talk about my meal because it was out-of-this-world good. they whipped me up some kind of yummy alcoholic coffee creation, plus i had the cornfried bread… riddled cornmeal cakes with salted butter + maple syrup, two sunny side up TX farm eggs and hickory smoked bacon. oh em gee. new favorite restaurant? yes.}
{i can never remember if i’ve talked about it on here, but i’m doing toastmasters to try to become a better public speaker. i was scared out of my mind to do it, but it’s turned out to be the best thing for me and surprisingly really fun. i even got an award for best table topic one week! [table topics are the impromptu speeches where they ask you a question and you have to talk about the subject on the spot. it is extremely nerve-wracking and i was so proud of myself!] i’ve also given my first prepared/memorized speech. that was scary too, but i’m looking forward to getting more comfortable up there and improving my speaking abilities.}
{on the left, i finally got to try the lobster roll from east hampton sandwich co. and it didn’t disappoint. it’s the closest i can get to maine in dallas, TX. and on the right, fish tacos on a beautiful day on the patio of central market.}
{aaaaand OCCASIONALLY i make something tasty for myself at home. like the time i made breakfast tacos with scrambled eggs, chorizo, sautéed tomatillo and yellow pepper, queso quesadilla cheese, and roasted garlic and serrano pepper salsa on white corn tortillas. or when i made penne with balsamic shaved brussels sprouts, caramelized red onions and romano cheese. maybe someday i’ll turn into a grown-up and cook for myself every night… or maybe not.} ;)
{lastly, another new hairstyle – the half-up bun – plus walks on katy trail and beers on the patio at gingy with alex. life is good.}
okay. so maybe i don’t have less photos than usual? either way, january killed. let’s hope the rest of the year is this wonderful! xoxo
