last valentine’s day, i put together a scavenger hunt around my apartment for jamie with clues [all puns] that led him to all these little food-related gifts. i took a lot of time planning it out, and although it was super cheesy, i think it turned out really fun. i wanted to share what i did before this valentine’s day in case any of you want to use it to make your own scavenger hunt for your valentine. it never hurts to have some ideas, right?
i bought these little chalkboard hearts from target and wrote the clues on them using a chalkboard pen, and then i used a bunch of cute little tags [also from target] to write the puns on each of the gifts. i tried to be strategic in how i hid the items to try to prevent jamie from finding the clues or gifts out of order [it helped that i had two bathrooms, a bedroom as well as an office], but i also told him that he had to follow the numbers and go in order to prevent any premature clue-finding! here are the clues, the corresponding gifts, and the location of where i hid them around my place:
{first off, the rules!}
{clue #1 was ready and waiting on the counter next to the rules… it led to a gift hidden in one of my kitchen cabinets, where i keep my cheese grater…}
{…and the first gift was a little starbucks giftcard! along with each hidden gift was the next clue.}
{in this case, the next clue led to the soap at my bathroom sink…}
{…where this little bottle of jack was sitting next to the soap, along with the next clue…}
{obviously this one led to the toilet, haha.}
{jamie used to be a diet coke drinker, but i’m proud to say, not anymore! and along with this little diet coke was the next clue…}
{…which led to the drawer in my tv stand where i keep the remotes.}
{inside was a jar of homemade bacon jam!}
{…along with this clue, which led to the pantry where i might store some nuts.} :)
{inside the pantry was a jar of pickles. gosh, jamie sure does love pickles!}
{…and i left this clue, which led to the freezer…}
{…where a pint of ice cream was waiting for him! along with the next clue…}
{…which led him to the kitchen sink…}
{…where i had hidden a skor bar [his favorite] and the next clue…}
{…which brought him to my shower, of course…}
{…where i had put some mints…}
{…and the next clue, which led him to my guitar sitting by the fireplace.}
{behind the guitar was some flavored syrup to put on waffles like jamie used to love when he was kid.}
{…and also, this clue which brought him to my fancy chandelier-like lamp.}
{at the foot of the lamp was this whisk [since jamie loves making waffles but didn’t own a whisk]…}
{…and this clue, which brought him to my laptop on my desk in the office.}
{on my desk was this set of glass bowls, again for waffle-making since he didn’t have any bowls and had to use the bowl from his crockpot the last time! haha.}
{this was a bonus round, since next to the bowls was a second gift, these measuring spoons [which he didn’t own at the time]…}
{…as well as some measuring cups…}
{…and a bottle of hot sauce! jamie loves hot sauce almost as much as he loves ketchup, ha! he eats it every day with his eggs in the morning.}
{and finally, also on my desk was this last clue, a play on some obscene language which led to the couch in the office…} ;)
{…i had moved my file cabinet out from the wall against the couch and stuck a little stool back there and put this cake on the stool so it was kind of hidden.}
{here’s the note up close… i thought it was pretty funny since jamie’s favorite cake is a better-than-sex cake! have you heard of that?! it’s chocolate and caramel and has skor bars in it.}
{and here’s the cake topper up close. it says, “you’re the icing on the cake, darling,” which is kind of an inside joke between us, since my friend noelle had told him that i was planning on moving to denver anyway and that he was just the icing on the cake. which is pretty much the truth, but it’s so funny that it worked out between us.} :)
{i also gave him a card since i’m a card person. i wish i had taken a pic of the card itself because it was cute.}
{all the clues and gifts piled up.}
and that concludes my valentine’s day scavenger hunt! maybe that sparked some ideas for your sweetheart, and if not, at least you probably got a good laugh out of it! it’s the one time of year when i am allowed to be a cheeseball… the rest of the year, it’s unsolicited !! ;)
