…featuring sparkler candles that were also [accidentally] trick candles, a party hat that jamie hated, and a homemade blueberry pie that he loved. [you win some and you lose some, right?] ;) this is just a short post because i’m trying to get into the mindset of frequent, short blog posts > infrequent, mile-long blog posts, but it doesn’t seem to come naturally to me.
anyway, my boo’s birthday was on a thursday this year and he wanted a blueberry pie! so i made him my mother’s famous “spicy” blueberry pie. [you know, the one that my parents used to tell us kids that we wouldn’t like because it was “spicy,” when all it had was delicious spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. rude.] i used a high-altitude pie crust recipe because i’ve failed at baking in the high altitude waaaay too many times to take a risk there. and then i brought that pie over to his house along with some fun party hats which jamie was not a fan of. we had to take b-day pictures since i was a horrible girlfriend last year and didn’t get any pics on his birthday, and this year, much to his dismay, we got some, donned in the embarrassing hats! haha, poor jamie. i thought they were cute!
and then i lit that pie right up and sang to him before discovering that the sparkler candles didn’t blow out!! he huffed and he puffed and he… couldn’t blow them out. and so then i tried helping and i’m sure we were a silly sight to be seen. but we managed to get those candles burned out without lighting anything else on fire so it all ended well.
i gave him a few gifties – the main one was a night at the marriott mountain valley lodge in breckenridge that coming weekend [photos to come!]. i think that going to breck was the highlight of his birthday since the evening was pretty low-key, but he did say that the pie was the best he’d had in his life [that man knows allllll the right things to say], and he got to eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner the next couple days, so i’d say it wasn’t a bad birthday. ;) ;)
jamie, my love, i wish the you the happiest of years and a long life ahead. i can’t wait to be your wife! xoxo
