…because guys, i love food. i have a feeling that this post is going to be far less fascinating to you guys than it is for me, so i apologize in advance if that’s the case. but i have to document the FOOD! and i can say that it’s a heck of a lot more interesting than PB&J. here is a little laugh for ya prior to posting a bunch of food pics… mimi cut this out of the paper for me! i sure do love her sense of humor and i don’t think i’ve found a cartoon that portrays me better than this one, haha:
{all you need to do is cross out the word “salads” and replace it with “tacos.” hahaha.}
secondly, i know these aren’t the most beautiful food pics there ever were [a good majority of them are taken on plastic plates, etc.], but i just want to appreciate them for what they are: nothing fancy, but very authentic. a communal gathering of coworkers with the fruits of their labor brought to a table for everyone to share. the people i work with are so hard-working, very generous, and they sure can COOK! plus they like to eat, which is always a positive thing in my opinion :) anyway, for the love of food, here are some of the delicious things i get to eat at work:
{first off, since my former coworker linda and i used to love going to the asian grocery stores to try different foods, it made me totally happy to work with a guy who used to own an asian grocery store because he always brings in interesting foods for us to try! it’s everything from dried shrimp to super spicy ramen to these bamboo charcoal peanuts!}
{last year on a friday during lent, we made a giant container of shrimp cocktail for our QA team! [well, they did and i took notes. haha]}
{this was so tasty!}
{on the left, barbacoa tacos from the food truck that hangs out in our work parking lot every morning, and on the right, the tacos we make regularly at work. they may not look like much, but they are SO tasty. marinated lifter meat with avocado pico de gallo on a corn tortilla.}
{one of my former QA tech’s boyfriend owned a fruteria, so sometimes she’d bring some yummy snacks to work. here we have mango, pineapple, and jicama with chili powder and lime, along with duros [puffed wheat chips].}
{on the left, more fruteria treats! pineapple, mango, and watermelon with lime and chili powder, along with a tamarind and chile lollipop and another kind of candy “noodles.” and on the right, a yummy feast including homemade ceviche and posole!}
{one more fruteria pic… on the right are all the fruits you’ve already seen with the addition of cucumber. but on the left is a more unique combination which is the only thing i think i’ve tasted that i was not a fan of… it had green olives [which are alright in my book although not fantastic], but more significantly, cueritos, which is pickled pig skin. [they look like earthworms, which wouldn’t be a bad thing if they tasted good, but they sorta taste like them too.] i like chicharrones [fried pig skin], but i’m just not a fan of cueritos. anyway, it was good to try something new! i’m never opposed to that.}
{this was a birthday potluck that we had for our plant manager! notice the chile relleno front and center… so delish! and no party is complete without a big pot of posole around here! i’ve also noticed something else about parties with my hispanic coworkers: 1.) there’s always pasta, which is a bit surprising since the rest of the food tends to lean towards authentic mexican, and 2.) there’s always jello – either some kind of store-bought fruit and jello mold or a homemade pan of fruit and jello!}
{more yummy tacos made at work. and a cake and flowers to say goodbye to my coworker who was going back to greeley to work.}
{two amazing breakfasts made by my coworkers! on the left, blueberry pancakes, bacon, some amazingly seasoned eggs and potatoes. on the right, pancakes, more amazingly seasoned eggs, refried beans, bacon, and chile relleno.}
{more posole…}
{…and MORE posole! i just love how you always throw in a ton of fresh cabbage, radishes, onions, cilantro and tortilla chips. it is so so good.}
{this was pretty much an elotes bar! grilled corn with pico and some kind of tasty crumbled queso.}
{i love grilled corn. and more yummy tacos…}
{not a great pic, but this chile relleno was so yummy.}
{on the left, it looks gross but it was so tasty – one of my QAs made us all rice pudding. very yummy. and on the right, delicious tacos again…}
{burrito fixin’s}
{some people might think i’m crazy, but i look at the inside of this taco with love.} ;) ;)
{a birthday cake + flowers for my amazing QA lead! i got this same cake for kenny on his birthday as well. it’s a whole foods cake and we’re big fans of it over here.}
{a giant christmas potluck!}
{YUM.}
{more tacos and homemade ceviche!}
a special thanks to my awesome coworkers for showing off their mad skillz and for introducing me to some amazing dishes! xoxo
