i’m sure you’ve all heard that ridiculous toby keith song, “i wanna talk about me.” well, today, i wanna talk about MAY. ;) okay, and i will be talking a little about ME too, since that tends to be what i do, but i’ll try to avoid doing so obnoxiously. mostly i just want to talk about how beautiful and green colorado is right now, and how many great spots there are to eat in denver, and… well, that’s about it.
obviously, the highlight of may for jamie and me was our engagement party and having our parents meet. i also very much enjoyed getting memorial day off and having no plans! and then there were all the usual fun things – trying new restaurants with jamie and noelle, enjoying the denver weather which is seriously great 99% of the time, hiking [we started back up on this again and i love love love it], and of course, wedding planning! here are some photos from month 5 of the year…
{since i told you i wasn’t going to talk all about me, i thought it would be great to start with a picture of… yep, you guessed it – ME. but also jamie. us as babies! i made this little collage and sent it to my mom… i think it’s fairly safe to say that we know what our kids will look like for the most part. the only thing we have left to find out someday is whether they’ll be bald as a baby and cute, delicate and blond as a toddler like jamie, or have hair as a baby and be dark-haired and hefty as a toddler like me, haha.} ;)
{i love my hood.}
{noelle and i tried american bonded for the first time. it’s a new cocktail bar in rino with j street kitchen in the back that serves food.}
{noelle had the smoked pork shoulder biscuit and mac and cheese. i tried her mac and it was pretty tasty!}
{and i’ve been trying to eat healthy lately so naturally i got the chicken and waffles.} ;)
{YUM! j street was very tasty, and on the right, we have some dio mio. on the thursday night before our engagement party in texas, our flight was [very] delayed, so we had time for dinner at dio bio before we headed to the airport. when life gives you lemons…}
{not the best photos, but there were some crazy storm clouds out the window on the way to the airport that day… there’s something about being 5000 feet above sea level that makes the clouds seem verrrrrrrry close.}
{there’s our little doggo after he got his haircut! and my new favorite beer, thanks to my coworker who had told me about it. it’s the perfect beer for laying out by the pool, lemme tell ya.}
{oh, you know… just practicing for marriage. “HERS” and “HIS… kidding, it’s all hers.” love these hilarious and cute mugs that jamie’s sister hope gave us!}
{i went back to bang up to the elephant and brought jamie this time! he loved it.}
{i had the newgate knockers [gin, tamarind syrup, almond, lemon; up] and he had the off your chump [rum, baijiu, guanabana, mint, almond, pineapple, lemon; blended]. they were both soo good. i thought jamie’s drink was going to be too sweet, but it actually was more icy and fresh mint-y but not too sweet at all.}
{for dinner, we shared the grilled jerk short ribs with pickled pineapple and chermoula…}
{…and the buss up shut, with spicy curried-chana, rice, roasted peppers, cilantro, green onion, and ripped-up roti.}
{it was an eerie, foggy evening in denver that night.}
{we tried a new place called birdcall after church one day and it was really cool. it’s basically like a trendy chik-fil-a [open on sundays], and you order from a screen, basically these little ipads set up around the restaurant. it’s fast food, so they bring out your food within 5 minutes. their sandwiches are like upscale chik-fil-a sandwiches [i’m not the biggest fan of chicken sandwiches but i am a fan of chik-fil-a, so if i’m saying that, it means they’re really good]. aaaaaand they serve beer!}
{we both got the spicy chicken sandwich, and it was pretttttty spicy! but very tasty. and they have all kinds of other flavors of chicken sandwiches too.}
{colorado sunset}
{my parents sent me this picture of shiner boy relaxing one evening while they were sitting out on the porch. we keep this little guy on a leash, close to the house, and under supervision because of what happened to our poor lucky, but he sure does love the yard.}
{i made jamie and me a royal breakfast to watch the royal wedding!}
{homemade blueberry lemon scones, yogurt parfaits, brown sugar bacon, and peach mimosas!}
{more homemade treats for jamie and me – radish butter toast and kentucky bourbon marinated tri tip [from work], garlic potatoes, green beans, and a butter lettuce salad.}
{the employee cookout at work}
{we grilled so many steaks for our empl0yees!}
{pretty tasty}
{jamie made another delicious breakfast. he knows how i love hash.}
{we tried this new restaurant in rino called barcelona – it’s a tapas place!}
{the vibe was cool and the food was awesome.}
{that 6-month aged manchego was divine. also, that bread! so good.}
{and we loved the new york strip with cherry pepper chimichurri.}
{we enjoyed birdcall so much that we went there again on another weekend in may. their buffalo chicken sandwich was sooooo good. and this time, i went for no beer, no fries, and more veggies on my burger.} :)
{city park!}
{we went to see the dead sea scrolls at the denver museum of nature & science, which is right next to city park. i had never been here before, and decided that it would be the perfect spot for a picnic. and we did end up having a picnic here in june.} :)
{my sunshine} :)
{headed out to the golden area to go on a hike at white ranch park!}
{at the start of our hike}
{this was our first evening hike that we’ve done together. we started during golden hour and left right after sunset!}
{magic hour in a magical spot.}
{the foothills are so beautiful at this time of year.}
{wildflowers!}
{i couldn’t get enough pictures of this gorgeous place.}
{i wish i could go on a sunset hike every single evening…}
{after our hike, we hit up this cool bar called school house kitchen & libations in olde town arvada, which is actually in an old schoolhouse built in 1882.}
{we both got the aloha, mr. hand [hendrick’s gin & fresh juiced cucumber lemonade], which was served in a beaker and with a giant pickle slice [which of course jamie loved]. and isn’t that bar top cool?!}
{this place had all kinds of cool school-themed decor.}
{i kinda want to try this cereal box inc. place sometime!}
{it’s a weird concept, but seems interesting…}
{remember when jamie and i had milk snow for the first time at the asian grocery store? well, that little hole-in-the-wall place in the grocery store opened up a trendy new spot right near jamie called snowl and we kiiiiiiiinda love it. they have all kinds of yummy-looking treats but we can’t seem to quit the milk snow. and i like to give jamie such a hard time about living in aurora, so far from everything, but he can, in fact, walk to snowl from his apartment. so i guess that’s worth something.}
{also, i love saying the name snowl. haha. and there on the right, when your memorial day BBQ is cancelled due to rain and you have fresh mint left over from a recipe… you make mojitos!}
{happy memorial day from us.}
so that was fun! may, you were good to us. here comes summer! xoxo
