back in october, my parents and i met my dad’s mom [nama], who lives in hot springs village, in the little town of jefferson for a little one-night getaway. jefferson is about halfway between dallas and hot springs, and it’s a fun place for a relaxing weekend trip – a small, quiet town with lots of bed-and-breakfasts, historic homes, cute shops, and great little restaurants along the main street.
what we didn’t realize when we planned this little trip, however, was that it was the weekend of the boo benefit bike rally, a.k.a. the largest motorcycle rally in ark-la-tex. [i guess we should have known that something was going on when every single bed-and-breakfast was full…] now, as you might have guessed, this was not exactly our scene. the town was jam-packed with motorcycles and leather and bandannas and a constant and deafening vroom vrooooom.
we found out, though, that the event was supporting a great cause – all the money raised from the activities were going to burn victims, children specifically. apparently they raised over $200,000 last year! plus all the bikers were nice and very friendly. so despite the crowd and the noise, we had so much fun walking around the town, driving by the historic homes, and eating some great food. we also visited the beautiful caddo lake [pictures to come].
it was so nice to see sweet nama and explore a new place. i wish brother bear could have made it! all in all, though, a great little trip. jefferson, we would love to see you again soon!
