sometimes you meet people in life that are just SO on the same page as you in just about everything… they like doing what you like to do and you have so much fun when you’re together. and even after years of not living in the same city, you’re still as close as always when you get together and there’s no doubt in your mind that you’ll be best friends foreva and evaaaa.
and sometimes, those friends plan a random, somewhat last-minute weekend trip to dallas to visit you and it completely makes your month.
i can’t even tell you how fun it was to have kyle come to visit! we had no plans, but ended up having the grandest time doing so many things. we ate great food. we drank great drinks. we shopped at cool stores. we explored cool neighborhoods. the weather was awesome and it was so fun to catch up with him. a perfect weekend, i could go so far to say…
{the first thing we did when kyle got here on saturday morning was go to bishop arts for some dallas grilled cheese co. the via domitia is my favorite… it has brie, sliced apples, arugula, prosciutto, and balsamic vinaigrette. and of course we each got a lakewood temptress because YUM.}
{next we shopped. we fell in love with society, and also [re]discovered that we have the same “taste” in candle scents… no. 4 is where it’s at.}
{this had us cracking up. if you can’t read it, the sign says: “CAUTION: INVISIBLE ELEPHANT ENCLOSURE. NO PARKING.” and then we had cider flights at bishop cider co. they were so good – much better/more interesting/less sweet than a lot of the different ciders that i’ve had.}
{next we went to this cool old bookstore called the wild detectives for some irish coffee.}
{…and took some silly pictures by this wall.}
{later that night, we hit up the rooftop bar at HG sply for some cocktails. this one was called the marlowe green and it was totally up my alley: broker’s gin, cucumber, celery, basil, fresh lime, and turbinado.}
{…and then went next door to remedy for dinner. we had painkillers followed by summer goat cheese dumplings [white corn broth, caramelized cipollinis, anise-pickled lemley’s peaches, brown butter baby zucchini, crispy squash bloom + cilantro]. A.K.A. HEAVEN.}
{AND. of course we found ourselves on a little grocery store excursion after dinner [typical for us… the last time it was a quest for firewood! but this time it was a little walk to fiesta for some wine and prickly pear fruit and a photo with this maguey leaf because it was big enough for me to practically surf on. so yeah, the necessities]. we then proceeded to have uber pick us up from the fiesta parking lot… never a dull moment with kyle!} ;)
{and the next day, we had brunch at henry’s majestic.}
{hello, sparkle bar!}
{best friends forever!}
{his: bread winners waffle [jalapeno bacon, aged cheddar, 2 sunny up eggs, henry’s hot maple syrup]. hers: al pastor pork benedict [crispy arepas, lime crema, 2 poached eggs, avocado, cotija].}
{you already know. #wecrazy} ;)
{and after some knox-henderson shopping, we went back to my house and took a little walk along turtle creek before he had to head back to houston.}
see what i mean? totally my kind of weekend. he is my soul brother. love you kyle!
