to continue on the food tour theme [and to complete some overdue posts and delete some old pictures on my phone], as a combined mothers day and fathers day gift for mom and dad, mike and i got the four of us tickets for an uptown food tour. we went on the tour right before we went on our backpacking trip to europe in june, and it was fun to have some together-time. little did we know that it would be MONTHS before we would get to have time with just the four of us again… literally, because we haven’t been able to do it since!
we booked the tour through food tours of america. i had actually wanted us to do another tour of bishop arts or one of lower greenville or deep ellum, but our dates were limited and this was what was available. we decided that it would be nice to get to know our own neighborhood better [mike would be moving into the neighborhood too in just a few short months], and it was. our tour guide was awesome, and we went to quite a few places that i hadn’t been, which is surprising since i can walk to all of them. i will say that overall, the food was slightly less unique than what we had on the bishop arts tour [some of it – not all of it], but it was still tasty. mostly, we were just happy to be doing something different and spending time together. we had a wonderful time.
{we met at the rustic, which is actually the only place on the tour that i’d eaten at before.}
{creamy polenta cakes with roasted poblanos and smokey cheddar on sausage gravy, plus crackers with honeycomb and local goat cheese}
{happy mothers day and happy fathers day to these lovelies.}
{he’s pretty cool too.} ;)
{next it was mutts cantina, which is actually kind of a beer garden combined with an off-leash dog park.}
{the burger was rather ordinary but still very tasty. and it was fun to watch the pups!}
{riding the trolley!}
{then it was ‘slap yo momma’ wings at the MAT – lemon pepper, teriyaki, buffalo, and cajun.}
{a dallas mural}
{…and jalapeño poppers at cliff’s bar & grill.}
{at cliff’s}
{baboush was the most interesting place we went on the tour – it’s a lebanese restaurant in west village. the first thing we had was a sampling of their different spreads served with grilled lebanese pita bread, which included hummus, babaganoush, and moroccan sweet tomato spread. the second thing was marinated shawerma chicken in lebanese spices, lemon juice, garlic & olive oil atop hummus, topped with the pickles and pine nuts. the flavors were very different and very delicious! i just love trying new things.}
{we ended the tour at bisous bisous patisserie!}
{they gave us little macaron samples and then mom bought a box of them…}
more fun times with the fam! so glad we got to do this before we were hit by the busyness!
