…here are some pictures of my halloween decorations! i know it’s the day after halloween but posting things late is my specialty. also, just to give a little background, i come from a family that goes all out decorating for every holiday…valentine’s day, easter, 4th of july, birthdays included. [and although i say family, let me clarify – my dad and brother have very little to do with it]. :) so i come by the holiday decorating thing naturally. but the way it goes for me is that i get super excited for fall decorating and christmas decorating, but by the time valentine’s day rolls around, i’m about WORE OUT from decorating. [FYI: that was purposeful bad grammar right there… sometimes bad grammar better makes a point. and sometimes it just adds a subtle hint of humor. i hope you don’t mind.] so my condo isn’t nearly as decked out for all those holidays at the beginning/middle of the year as it is for the ones at the end.
i’ve always preferred my home to have the “festive halloween look” over the haunted house look, so most of my decorations are cutesy – smiling jack o’lanterns, candy corn, and owls, always with a bit of sparkle mixed in! i’m also slightly garland-obsessed, so in pretty much any space that you could hang a garland, i’ve hung a garland. it’s excessive but it makes me SO happy. it has taken lots of years to acquire all these decorations, and this year, i didn’t buy a single thing, which was refreshing. i think i’m good for a while!
{when you first walk in the door – mimi gave me this one. last year i switched out my regular hats on the hat tree with a pirate hat and a witch hat, but i forgot to do that this year.}
{my mantle decorations… a lot of people have asked me if i changed out the picture over the fireplace for fall – even people who come to my house fairly often. somehow the orange in the mantle decorations bring out the orange in the painting and make it look like a completely different picture!}
{up close: i normally have sprigs of multicolored berries in that vase, but i got those orange stalks of “wheat” at michael’s that give it more of an autumn feel. i think i got both the bottle and the soft little jack o’lantern at world market last year. i love the netting/fabric [i’m not quite sure what to call it] because it has a hint of sparkle and kind of brings everything together while adding dimension. it’s also really easy to work with. my mom or mimi gave it to me last year because they had some extra – i believe they purchased several yards of it at hobby lobby.}
{both the framed sign and the garland were purchased last year at homegoods. the sign actually had a crack in the glass but it’s pretty hard to see, and i didn’t have to pay full price for it. i don’t really think anyone even notices unless i point it out.}
{another gem from homegoods!}
{coffee table decorations}
{this is probably my favorite halloween corner of the whole house! we had found these old photos in my great aunt and uncle’s house when they passed away – they’re not relatives of ours and were going to get thrown away, but when i saw them, i thought they would make such great halloween decorations that i decided to keep them! the one on the left is super creepy, and the one on the right is just really humorous. as in, is this for real?? i can’t remember where i got that little wooden sign on the left, but it says, “i’m sorry, i thought that was your costume!” it goes so perfectly with those photos and makes me laugh pretty much every time i walk by. the best part is when company comes over – they always end up staring at the pictures for a while, unsure about whether they’re halloween decorations and afraid to ask, before they finally inquire politely, “are these your relatives?”}
{the glittery pumpkin table runner came from tj maxx, and the ornament and sparkly little basket [not sure what else to call it] were given to me as gifts. i made the BOO garland in the background. i also love my stack of favorite instagram photos from printstagram… i keep them out year round and they make a great sit-around.}
{a sign that mimi gave me – it’s really more for thanksgiving but i put it out for halloween too – plus an A&M ornament to celebrate football season and my favorite candle from pier1. the scent is teakwood & cedar and it smells sooooo good. i got it last year and should have stocked up because they didn’t have that scent this year… bummer. trying to make it last… also, yet another homegoods garland down there!}
{this sign was also from homegoods.}
{my table decorations. the tree also came from my great aunt and uncle’s house, and the rest of the decorations are a random assortment from michael’s, world market, and hand-me-downs from my mom. the table runner is from homegoods.}
{that glitzy little pinwheel is from target, and the little pumpkin is another hand-me-down.}
{i painted this canvas at painting with a twist, but it looked spooky to me so i ended up adding a crow, a black cat, a spiderweb, and some bats so i can use it a halloween decoration!}
{the acorns are from world market and the rest of the decorations are hand-me-downs.}
{and lastly, i keep the halloween decorations out of my bedroom for the most part, but this little star garland that i made out of halloween greeting cards needed a home, and i think this is the perfect place.}
here are some photos from my halloween party last year if you’re interested.
hope you all had a very happy halloween!
