happy thanksgiving, friends! i hope you’ve enjoyed lots of turkey, football, and time with family. i’m at my parents’ house, but we’re actually celebrating thanksgiving tomorrow since my dad is flying today, poor guy. luckily he’s used to celebrating holidays on different days, as are we. he’s in detroit tonight and but he’s planning on buying the co-pilot thanksgiving dinner at the hotel. mike is spending today with priscilla and her family, and mimi is in florida visiting my aunt, uncle, and cousins, so it’s just nama, mom, and me. and baby shiner! it’s actually been nice and relaxing since we got an extra day to cook. i’ve loved getting to hang with the girls and catch up with nam, and we’re looking forward to the boys + priscilla joining us tomorrow.
{from yesterday evening in the backyard. i love this little!}
i decided to put together a little thankful list because it’s kind of the thing to do at this time of year. :) but i’m really so grateful for this life and the people i get to share it with. i absolutely loved what naomi from love taza shared today in this post:
“i read some really beautiful words on social media the other night that said the practice of gratitude is 3 things.
1. notice. 2. savor. 3. express.”
to whoever posted that originally, that was so, so good. thanks for sharing. and thanks for re-posting it, naomi!
and now, for my list. these are a teeny-tiny drop in the bucket of things to be thankful for… some are big, and some are small, but wanted to share what came to mind:
: : first things first, coffee. it does amazing things…
: : safety. with everything going on in the world, you never know what can happen. but i’m thankful for the overall safety and freedoms of our country.
: : my boss and team members at work. i love them so much!
: : ABSC. best decision i ever made was to start a blog, seriously. 4 years going strong.
: : being able to see the world. gosh, i love to visit new places and hope i can do it for the rest of my life.
: : this sounds weird, but the creativity of humans. i feel so inspired by people and their creativity, especially thanks to the internet and wonderful things like pinterest, blogs, etc. but even just walking by an anthropologie store window [okay, let’s be honest – i can never just walk by ;)] makes me swoon and i’m like, wow, people create such beautiful things.
: : city living. so. much. fun.
: : family family family family family family. i can’t say it enough. i just love mine! no, they’re not perfect, but they’re perfect for me.
: : hilarious text messages with your best friends (whom you maybe can’t see every day, because, for instance, they live in DENVER) that make your side hurt from laughing so hard. sometimes i’m just like, WE SO FUNNY. WE SO CLEVER.
: : my curling iron. game changer.
: : people to talk to about my problems and get advice from. i’m fortunate to have lots of these people in my life and i’m very, very grateful for them.
: : celebrations of all kind. birthdays? holidays? weekends? eeeeeeven mondays. let’s celebrate them all. wonderful things like hats and donuts and garlands and fun pictures make any ordinary day seem festive.
: : pie! i love pie. especially apple, strawberry, peach, blueberry, raspberry…
: : my darling grandmothers. they are pretty special.
: : tea parties. [can’t wait for this year!]
: : brother-sister dates.
: : my bible. it has so many notes and thoughts and memories in it, in addition to God’s word. i immediately feel a sense of calm and relief when i open it.
: : texas weather. as crazy-weird as it can be at times, i love it. i love the mild winters and late autumns and beautiful springs and long summers, even when it’s hot as hell. what can i say? i’m a southern girl, and the sun always shines brighter in texas. :)
: : FOOD! eating. trying new foods. trying new restaurants. i really love to eat! and drink. trying new bars. happy hour. interesting brews and good wine and fun cocktails. sitting at the table, sharing, tasting, engaging in conversation. i don’t know if there’s anything better.
: : walking places. it makes my life!
: : shopping with my ladies. we’re just so good at it.
: : text messages from my dad. so freaking funny, so freaking cute.
: : SUSHI. and pretty much all asian food. it’s like God’s gift to earth.
: : 25.75 years of happiness. hoping for 75.25 more. :)
happy holidays, everyone! [i can officially say that now…] xoxo
