at the end of our trip to seattle, when mike got off work on friday, mom surprised us with the most lovely little trip to snoqualmie falls, a beautiful waterfall and park in the mountains about 40 minutes outside of seattle [the plan had originally been for dad to be there too of course, but he ended up having to fly and couldn’t make it, sadly]. the best part was, she had booked us a room at the salish lodge for a night, with a balcony overlooking the falls! literally, we were up right close and personal with it and could sit outside watching it or leave the balcony door open to hear the water crashing. it was a pretty awesome experience.
we spent a while exploring the falls and taking pictures – they were soooo beautiful, and ever since our trip to iguazu falls, our family has been a teeny tiny bit obsessed with waterfalls. there’s something so exhilarating about them, don’t you think? they’re just so powerful and beautiful. since we arrived in snoqualmie in the late afternoon/early evening and were planning on leaving in the early afternoon the next day, staying right at the falls was perfect. we were able to observe the falls at different times of the day and explore the park without feeling rushed and not waste travel time driving to and from the falls through the mountains.
the lodge was a really fun place to stay with its outdoorsy-and-woodsy-yet-still-luxurious feel. and the scenery was breathtaking… have i mentioned that i’m in love with the pacific northwest? there’s nothing like it. there were various restaurants in the lodge – we ended up sharing a couple different wood-fired pizzas and dessert at the attic. we got to see the falls at sunset and then sit on our balcony and watch the water pour over the edge of the cliff that night from our balcony.
the next morning, we took more pictures of the falls and then went for a long hike on the trails nearby before getting ready to head back. we stopped in the town of snoqualmie just for fun on the way out, and took pictures of the steam engine for dad. :) and that was the last bit of our trip, as we had to head back to the airport after that. but what a fun trip it was! and that last night in snoqualmie was the icing on the cake.

{our room’s cozy stone fireplace}
{our room also had this huge bath tub that turned into a hot tub [what would you call that? a spa? i don’t know], and it was so funny because the bathroom had these sliding window/door things that opened into the main room that we thought was such an odd thing until we realized how close we were to the falls… if you left the door open to the balcony and opened this “window” to the bathroom, you could be in the hot tub and hear the roaring of the waterfall outside. romantic, right?? too bad it was just mom, mike, and me…} ;)
{the view from our balcony. it was pretty awesome.}

thank you for the AMAZING trip, mom and dad! it was so fun getting to see where mike lived in seattle and spending time as a family, with a ton of fun adventures on the side!
