i know i’m waaaaaay behind and haven’t been posting much at all lately… hopefully that will change after our big audit is over at work [this friday, WHOOP!]. i can’t wait to have it done with, and although i’m making no promises about my frequency of posting since life is so dang busy these days, i will try my hardest to get back in the swing of regular blogging.
today i’m sharing pics from my last trip to texas! i went back home in early may for my friend kristen’s wedding, but it also worked out perfectly because 1.) i got to celebrate mimi’s birthday which happened to be that same weekend, and 2.) i got to spend time with my family and enjoy the amazing spring weather in texas while it was still a little chilly in colorado. here we go:
{first off, i sent this text to my family when i landed in dallas… definitely not the cutest picture ever of 5- or 6-year-old me but i kinda love it. sometimes i crack myself up!!} ;) ;)
{dad and mike showed up to dinner in matching shoes [accidentally]!}
{twinsies!}
{an amazing dinner at mimi’s… i miss these times.}
{there’s something about combining family + your childhood home + string lights + a fire that’s pretty magical.}
{my view every morning as a kid.}
{i never let my mom put shades on these windows growing up because i loved waking up to this.}
{what home looks like.}
{on the left: i came downstairs and this little dog looked like he was up to something. my purse was on the chair and there was a chewed-up cap beside him. i looked in the living room, and bits of my eye drop bottle and other miscellaneous items were scattered over the carpet. as you can see, no signs of remorse or guilt coming from this guy! ;) on the right, his favorite lover, elefante or “ella.” we won’t talk about it!!}
{another shiner story: the ag department at my mom’s school was handing out cookies to the teachers with little animal facts written on them and this is the one my mom got… the best part is that we found shiner with it – he had gotten into her bag and grabbed out the cookies and this paper. definitely as mischievous as a 2-year-old too!}
{i took a bunch of photos on our walk…}
{home sweet texas}
{everything was so green at this time of year.}
{i appreciate the home i grew up in so much more now that i moved away.}
{the backyard}
{lots of fun memories at this house!}
{of course we had to have some crawfish!}
{family crawfish date!}
{i’m crawfish-obsessed.}
{that one time when shiner and mike were out on the porch and mom and i were inside cooking and looking out the window at them, and shiner noticed us through the window and got SO excited and jumped on the couch and started trying to scratch on the window at us. silly, cute dog.} :)
{a birthday cake for mimi!}
{one of my favorite things about my childhood: evenings on the porch!}
{cheers to mimi, 81 years and still young!}
{this cutie.}
{the girls.}
{mimi and her grands [well, half of them]}
{cute parents}
{family photo}
{a delicious and festive dinner, prepared by my parents}
{happy 81st birthday to mimi!}
{making a wish!}
{the boys, deep in conversation}
{these two!! despite the look on his face, shiner loves getting his ears massaged like that!}
{after church on sunday… yep, we’re just a bunch of clowns!}
{fort worth}
{we had brunch for mimi’s birthday at reata!}
{doesn’t get much more texan than this.}
{love them}
{all ready for the wedding! too bad my sweet date couldn’t make it down! luckily my friend becca [who was also invited to the wedding] was my date for the night!}
{on monday, lunch at my favorite – hg sply co – before my flight out.}
{i had never been to the fort worth location but it’s right on the river!}
{mexican pulled pork with double honey-garlic brussels and guac? to die for.}
{had to stop in anthropologie, duh!}
{aaaaaand i also fell in love with a store i’d never been in, dear hannah.}
{mirror selfies are kiiiiinda our thing.} ;)
{because i needed a picture of the mirror itself too! too cute!}
and then i flew back to colorado and missed home and my family terribly BUT also was thrilled to get to see my jamie boy because he makes everything better. i do appreciate texas and my childhood home and of course MY FAM [!] so much more than i ever did before. but i must say that i also love my new home state of colorado and feel lucky to live in such a beautiful place where i get to see the mountains every morning and every evening. and i have a person there who makes it feel like home too. :) thank you so much to my wonderful family for the fantastic weekend home! i miss y’all. xoxo
