because our family is very spread out, we [meaning my mom, my dad, mike, and i] always have several christmases to fit in some time with everyone. our first christmas this year was with mimi and papa. although we would all be going to florida to see the rest of my mom’s side, we were going to have trouble fitting all the presents in our suitcases and decided that it was easier just to exchange most of our gifts with each other at home in texas.

we enjoyed the most lovely brunch that mimi so graciously made for us – german pancakes topped with berries, raspberry poached pears, and breakfast sausage, plus champagne with raspberries. [can you tell that we like berries?!] i was in heaven.
we have no young children in the group, but lucky has happily taken over that role. he is and always has been absolutely ecstatic about opening presents. the minute we got to mimi and papa’s, he was begging to get started.
it was a wonderful time, and we all received many thoughtful gifts.

we are lucky to have mimi and papa in our lives and living nearby. in fact, i’m blessed to have amazing grandparents on both sides of the family. we love them so much!
