this christmas has been a great one. our tradition is to open presents on christmas eve after church, and this year we had hors d’oeuvres, champagne, and cookies by the tree as we exchanged gifts. even though mimi only lives a couple miles away, she spent the night with us so she wouldn’t have to be alone on christmas. it was our first christmas since papa passed away and boy do we miss him. but the evening was wonderfully low-key [yet elaborate, since that’s just the way my family is!!], and it felt just like old times, before mimi and papa moved to texas and we had “sleepovers” more often. those are some of my favorite memories – mimi waking up early with us, playing with us in the mornings in her robe, making towers with the individual kids cereal boxes that she used to buy and letting us choose one for breakfast and knock over the tower. we loved every minute of it, and it brought back a lot of those memories to have her stay with us. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: we are blessed.
we’re spending the rest of the week/weekend in florida with the other side of the family, which will be a blast as well. I will most definitely be posting pictures from christmas eve and our trip, but for now, i’ll leave you with just one: a silly little selfie of mike and i on the way to church…
remember the reason for the season, friends, and I wish you the happiest of christmases. xoxo
