if you know anything about the people i work with – okay, i guess you probably don’t, so i’ll tell you – they’re a whole bunch of crazies but a whole lot of fun. my company really gets into halloween – there’s an individual costume contest and a department skit/decorations contest and everyone brings food and bevs. they had it on the friday before halloween this year, and the party starts in the morning, plus we always get out at 3 pm on fridays… so let’s just say that not much work got done on this day!
our department [sourcing] wanted to participate in the skit/decorations contest, so we met a couple of weeks before halloween to come up with a theme and plan everything out. we decided to go with “sourcing slaughterhouse” as the theme… several of us [including myself] aren’t usually big on scary decorations, but a slaughterhouse theme was the perfect theme for us since we source a lot of beef and pork and chicken… that happens to be our area of expertise! and we had a lot of [free] stuff already that we could use for the decorations… mops and aprons and gloves and packages of steaks, things like that. and even us non-lovers of scary decorations got on board and participated! it was really fun actually. we ended up going all out and SOMEHOW didn’t win the contest, although everyone told us that they thought we should have won. it really did come together very nicely scarily.
aaaaand not only is there a warning on this post, but there’s a…
DISCLAIMER: this was all in fun/halloween spirit and to go along with the slaughterhouse. we do not, as a company nor individuals, believe in inhumane slaughtering of animals nor people [ha]. we do not support or even poke fun of inhumane treatment of animals, nor do we source from companies who utilize methods of inhumane treatment of animals. this was all staged for the halloween festivities. :)
here are some photos from our halloween adventures at the office:
{the costume contest. it was so funny to see everyone in costume lined up like that… for some reason it reminded me of the beginning of shrek when all the village people were lining up to present their fairytale creatures!}
{that victoria’s secret bag was the cutest! i didn’t get to stick around to see who won because i was busy setting up for our department event, but i hope she won!}
{when you entered the sourcing slaughterhouse, there was a tour guide who would guide through the cube aisles, and we were all dressed in “bloody” aprons and lab coats and gloves and boots with hair nets and lab goggles [in my case], and we’d jump out from the cubes and scare people. the first photo shows the first aisle, where the cattle is led through a narrow corral to be slaughtered. the second aisle is where they’re zapped and hung on hooks…}
{bloody knives}
{…then you went through an aisle with bloody body parts, wound around to the next aisle, and there was a little window into a cube with the scene above!}
{these are real cow hooves, a cow tongue, and pig ears! GROSS!}
{there’s no way out…} ;)
{…it was even creepier when we turned out the lights and turned on the strobe lights and added some creepy slaughterhouse sounds…}
{we had all the food and drinks in one of our conference rooms – the “processing room.” there were vanilla pudding shots and pistachio pudding shots…}
{bloody mary shots, fake eyeballs in a pot, and gummy eyeballs…}
{puff pastry “intestines,” some filled with cherry and some filled with nutella, and popcorn ball “brains,” both made by me, plus red jello and THE BEST DUMPLINGS EVER [vegetarian and chicken], made by linda, not pictured…}
{a cauliflower brain and a mismash of blood and guts, not to be actually eaten…}
{and real chicken feet… disgusting! definitely not to be eaten. i mean, i don’t know how anyone even had an appetite after seeing some of the horrors that we put out. but those pudding shots and dumplings were just too good…}
{but the star of the show was this meat grinder that linda made out of styrofoam coolers. isn’t that amazing?? we added the creepy guy, which one of my coworkers had borrowed from a friend that just so happened to be only a ribcage and up – the perfect size for the meat grinder – plus a mop that was dyed red to look like ground meat.}
{just look at that thing. pretty legit, right? linda is brilliant.}
{a few men down…}
{we visited some of the other departments to check out their decorations and have some food and drinks. this star wars one was pretty cool.}
{someone sure had a lot of action figures.} ;)
{one of the groups did a skit called “friday night live” where they interviewed disney princesses. it was pretty hilarious. they actually ended up winning the contest, actually, which we were a bit confused about, since we thought it was more of a decorations contest and they won even though they had a skit and very few decorations. but they did well at the skit – it was very entertaining!}
{there was also a department with a minions theme, and another one with a ghostbusters theme. lots of fun and clever ideas!}
great work, team! we did well. :)
