kind of like “texts from last night,” only different. ;)
{trying on one of mike’s hats… he’s going to kill me for posting this but i like it!}
my dad was the last in our family [our immediate family, at least] to embrace text messages, but in the past few years, he’s become a fan. his texts are altogether cute, endearing, and hilarious, characterized by short sentences, proper punctuation, and – his signature – “luvs” at the end of just about every sentence, which is our family’s “nickname” for i love you. he also recently discovered emojis, or “imagees,” as he calls them [emphasis on the “im,” like in the word “images”]. we all make fun of him a liiiiiiittle bit because his normal sense of humor would best be described as slapstick / #dadjokes, but his sense of humor through text messages is totally different – very dry and LOL funny [or at least we think so. maybe you have to know him?]. and they are most definitely sweet. anyway, these texts just had to be remembered forever:
{remember when the colossal question – blue and black or white and gold – was going viral? well, when my brother texted us to see what we thought, my dad, having no idea what he was talking about, thought it was some sort of trick question…}
{“we don’t have any grandchildren. luvs.” trying to drop a hint or what?} ;)
{this was when we were in europe, getting ready to leave… if i recall, i think there was some confusion with the time difference [as in, he was going to bed at like 6pm or something based on what time he thought it was where we were], but isn’t he sweet?}
{haha}
{autocorrect. it happens to the best of us.}
{when mike got his first business cards! haha. and i liked mike’s response!} ;)
{he didn’t realize it was a group text and i wanted to inform him before something inappropriate was said, ha. but super sweet with my mama.}
{his obsession with steam engines! and again, being cute. frank was ryan’s dog.}
{some history behind this one: my mom sometimes gets frustrated because since my dad made captain a few years back, he’s had to start at the bottom of the ranks again and is working his way up, so he has a hard time getting vacation when he wants it sometimes. he and my mom wanted to take a weekend trip to maryland to go visit a train that my dad wanted to see and take a tandem bike ride over the mason dixon line, so they planned a date which was the only weekend that would work for both of them, but he ended up getting scheduled to work despite bidding off. of course my mom was super bummed and frustrated, so my dad said that he was going to go talk to the chief pilot [kind of a big deal] and explain that his wife was not happy and he needed to have this one weekend off. and so he did, and the chief pilot said that was fine. and my dad promptly texted my mom the emojis above! my mom thought it was the cutest and i did too.}
{random man! [rhinelander is the town in wisconsin where my dad’s family used to have a cabin.]}
{at one point my mom had this idea that when she and my dad are grandparents, they could go by “puff” and “toot” because my dad loves trains, and of course she said that dad would be toot and she’d be puff. and my dad said nooooo, it would be the other way around. and ever since then, they’ll banter back and forth about who will be toot, so i thought this was funny!}
{cutest text ever from three years ago – dad had flown to milwaukee on a trip about a year after i lived there for a summer. definitely made my day.}
see what i mean?? also, he writes these funny little lists like this one, which is a reminder of what i’m supposed to take when i leave to go back to my house:
:)
{another one he’ll kill me for – being silly and trying on mimi’s glasses!}
yep, he’s a keeper!! and to end this post, i’ll finish it off by a cute text by mimi:
i love my people. xoxo
