it’s always nice to have some goals to focus on in the new year, and today i want to talk about personal style. i’m certainly not writing this as an expert on style or as someone who has hers all figured out, that’s for certain. in fact, it’s quite the opposite. lately i’ve been thinking a lot about how i would define my personal style, and the truth is that i’ve had these longtime internal style conflicts in my head over the years. i tend to gravitate toward different looks depending on what i’m doing, who i’m hanging out with, what the trends are, etc., which sometimes makes me feel a bit like a chameleon.
for example, my style at work tends toward more classic and casual, while my weekend evening style is more glitzy and my weekend day style could be described as girly with a little boho/hipster thrown in every now and again. [at least today.] ;) so what is my signature look? i don’t know exactly what it is, but that’s what i’m going to explore this year: what looks i love, what styles fit me and my personality and lifestyle. and then i’m going to work on developing that look and wearing only what is true to me. maybe i’ll find that i’m already doing that, or maybe i’ll find that there are pieces of my wardrobe or beauty routine that doesn’t fit or make me happy – we’ll just have to see!
i’ve created a board on pinterest called miss adventure, inspired by kate spade’s missadventure videos [with anna kendrick? have you seen them? they’re my favorite…]. i’m inviting you to follow along on my pursuit to get to know myself and define my style, and there will be various posts to help with this process. i mean, it kinda sounds fun, right?
here are a few specific goals that i set for myself for the coming year regarding fashion, beauty, and style:
: : buy only clothes that fit well.
: : buy only clothes that truly represent me and my personality and lifestyle.
: : get rid of clothes that don’t fit me well, don’t represent my style, or don’t make me happy.
: : utilize my whole closet [and get rid of what i don’t use].
: : be creative – don’t gravitate to the same outfits.
: : don’t be lazy – dress up more, especially for work.
: : don’t be boring – add a bit of flair to every outfit.
: : buy new makeup often – don’t always buy the same products.
: : explore different makeup techniques beyond regular routine and use different products every day.
: : try some new hairstyles and hair accessories.
: : paint my nails more. now that i’m not taking cooking classes, i don’t have an excuse not to!
that’s a lot of goals but at least it gives me something to shoot for! and now, i’ll leave you with an inspiring quote by domenico dolce and stefano gabbana:
“style is personality. it’s having the ability to look at things beyond fashion and the self-confidence to transform even the simplest thing into something special.”
