two weekends ago, jamie and i left on a 7:30 pm flight to visit my parents in dallas for a short weekend trip. unfortunately my brother had had a ski trip with friends planned in breckenridge on that weekend for a while, and we just had that one open weekend in february that my parents, jamie, and i were all going to be available, so we didn’t get to see mike at all. mike and i switched places that weekend! but we had a great time with my parents and mimi and also got to see some friends as well. it’s hard to find time to spend with all the people i want to see, but i’m trying to see family and a few friends each time i go back.
{on the plane, texas bound!}
{on saturday morning, jamie and i met my friends linda, noel, and karuna at halcyon in dallas.}
{it was so much fun to see these lovely people! we missed abraham, karuna’s husband, as he was traveling and couldn’t make it, but we were happy karuna could join us. also, noel and linda are having a baby in june, and they revealed the baby’s gender to us at brunch! they’re having a sweet baby girl. they are over the moon and i’m so excited for them!}
{i miss these friends!}
{all the different flavors of mimosas were so fun! from left to right: the hawaiian, the classic, the cardamom pear, and the mango chili. }
{i had the santa fe egg skillet with jalapeno cheddar sausage, sweet potatoes, fire roasted peppers, mushrooms, pepper jack cheese, three eggs, toast and jam.}
{jamie had the old texas halcyon benedict with buttermilk biscuit halves, chopped brisket, black beans, poached egg, avocado, hollandaise and salsa, served with campfire potatoes.}
{we had to take a picture in front of this heart wall.} :)
{…and this one, haha. although it should have “tacos” crossed out with “you” written above it, because everyone knows i love tacos, but they probably don’t know just how MUCH i love this man of mine.}
{after our little dallas adventure, we came home and then went to the c.r. smith museum [basically the american airlines museum] with mom and dad. we had a fun time together!}
{boarding an old dc-3}
{walking on this plane made us feel dizzy and we weren’t even up in the air!!}
{ready for take-off!} ;)
{no comment.} ;) ;)
{after arriving at our destination!!}
{my birthday was yesterday – february 22 – and jamie’s is march 1, one week after mine. we celebrated our birthdays that weekend with my family since i wouldn’t be seeing them for another month. my mom served us an amazing birthday dinner of crawfish etouffee over pasta, plus sugar snap peas and bread and a delicious salad.}
{and we had this beautiful cake! i love the j squared!}
{the following day, we went to church and then had brunch at mimi’s house. she served us all kinds of delicious food…}
{…including king cake! mimi and my mom lived in new orleans for a little while when my mom was in high school, so we are celebrators of mardi gras around here!}
{this king cake had the cutest st. louis cathedral on top!}
{guess who found the baby??? this was a few days later at my house, but i went to take a bite and there was the little baby, booty up and arms hanging on to my bite of king cake!! made me laugh. i guess i’ll be buying the next king cake for mardi gras!} ;)
{i took this on our flight back home to denver.}
{we’ll miss you dallas!}
one funny moment was going through airport security with a giant shopping bag of birthday cake, king cake, and valentine’s day candy. the tsa lady looked through the bag but let us take it all, and we were chuckling. we obviously had a HORRIBLE weekend, haha!! a special thank you to my parents and mimi for hosting us, serving amazing food and wine as always, giving us lots of sweet birthday gifts, and making the weekend so fun! we love you. xoxo
