wanna see how crazy denver weather is???
this is what the last days in april looked like:
{my little courtyard covered in snow! i wish i would have gotten more photos of denver blanketed in white – it was beautiful.}
i’m pretty sure i’ve never experienced snow past valentine’s day in texas [and even snow that late is RARE!] so this was quite a surprise. you’d think i would be annoyed by it, but it was kinda fun! it has actually been a warm winter in colorado – i was laying out by the pool in february, and it had snowed only once [besides this weekend] since i moved in january. everyone around here seems to think that it was winter’s last hurrah before summery weather hits denver, and i was good with having a cozy little snow day before the season changes for good.
{good thing i have a sweet south dakota boy to de-ice my car for me.} :)
it basically snowed from friday afternoon/evening through saturday evening. on sunday, it had warmed up to 60 and the sun was warm, so jamie and i actually went up on the rooftop patio at his apartment and laid there in the sun a while.
{lots of snow still up there, but it felt sooo good out!}
i can’t get over how wild the weather is here, but i totally love it. a lot more than i thought i would! the change in seasons is nice and the dry air makes both cold and warm temperatures feel better than what those temps feel like in the south where i’m from. it’s hard to explain until you actually experience it.
aaaaaand the other purpose of this post is to record what amazing weekends jamie and i have had lately! these days are just the best and i want to remember them forever. i’ve been hosting people about every other weekend… in april, my brother came, then jamie and i had a weekend with just the two of us, then linda & noel came, and then we had a weekend with just the two of of us again. we have SO much fun hosting because we love showing people around denver and doing all the cool things the city has to offer, and then we’ve appreciated the peace and quiet of our chill weekends together too. for example, on easter weekend, we:
: : sipped on wine and just relaxed together on friday night.
: : on saturday morning, jamie made me breakfast and we went to the flagship REI, which was by far the coolest REI i’ve ever been to, to get starbucks and some hiking boots for me. he surprised me by buying them for me [i forced him to let me pay for part of them because they’re not cheap] and we had fun browsing all the camping/outdoorsy stuff.
: : next we hit up jerusalem, the BEST middle eastern restaurant, and shared a lamb & beef gyro with rice, fatouch, and tzatziki. it’s been a favorite of jamie’s for a while, but it was my first time going and i’m now obsessed! we sat outside in the gorgeous weather.
: : then we went to a brewery across the way for a beer… can’t remember the name of it.
: : that afternoon we went for a walk in wash park! it was so nice out and there were tons of people playing volleyball, canoeing in the little pond, and grilling out/picnicking in the grass. we got in some exercise and enjoyed the great weather.
: : finally, we met up with some of jamie’s couple-friends downtown for a night of drinks + giant jenga.
: : on sunday, we went to church for easter, then walked to denver central market for lunch. we stopped by stem ciders for a glass of cider [frozen cider for jamie] before heading home for a little nap and a grocery store run together.
such a perfect and relaxing weekend! this past weekend was like that, only different because we had a snow day! it made things a lot more cozy-feeling. here’s what we did:
: : on friday night, i went to a bachelorette party for a friend and jamie hung out with his friends. this was my attempt at a seductive selfie in the uber on the way to the restaurant where the party started, just like i used to send him when we were long-distance. i guess i’m not really on my selfie game as of late, ha!
: : on saturday, i made biscuits and bacon and jamie made eggs. not to brag or anything, but we’re a kick-ass breakfast-making team. ;)
…see what i mean? i should also mention that as we were breakfasting, we had a fire going in the fireplace and a gorgeous blanket of snow outside with big flakes coming down.
: : next we went in the hot tub – while it was SNOWING! – because i had never done that before. we had the place all to ourselves since it was morning, and we sipped on our iced coffee as snowflakes fell on our heads and steam floated all around us from the waterfalls. it. was. magical.
: : then we went to the mall to run some errands. jamie got some more summer clothes and i got some more winter clothes [knowing where we grew up, it totally makes sense as to why we each need more clothes for opposite seasons!!]. he loves it when i pick out clothes for him, which is basically a dream of mine. aaaaand he’s patient when i go in anthropologie and likes to look at all the structural aspects of the store and tell me how everything is made, haha. ;) we ate sushi for lunch and shopped and got starbucks.
: : jamie went with me to get my oil changed, and then we went to [once again!] jerusalem, this time for dinner! it never disappoints [or at least it hasn’t my first two times!]. we went back to his place afterward and talked for a long while that night about life and family and faith and basically everything.
: : on sunday, we went to church [one of our favorite things to do together!] and then had brunch at there with fun cocktails. we went back to his place, laid up on his rooftop like i mentioned earlier, and watched a movie.
: : this morning i had to wake up at 3 am for an audit at work, so yesterday i planned on going to bed super early, but when i went to leave jamie’s house at 6:30 pm last night, i had a flat tire. [proof that even “perfect” weekends aren’t totally perfect, ha.] jamie was a sweetheart and fed me dinner [spaghetti that he had made for the week], and then let me sleep on his shoulder while he watched a movie and waited for AAA to call my phone. when they finally got there over an hour later, he woke me up and went down there to talk with the guy and give some insight on the tire. it only took about 15 minutes for AAA to air up the tire and we came to the conclusion that the guy who changed my oil/checked the air on my tires likely forgot to screw in the cap properly so my tire had probably been leaking air. we would know for sure in the morning if this was what happened, and jamie made me promise to call him at 3 am when i woke up if my tire was flat and he would come drive me to work. thankfully, it wasn’t flat and i didn’t have to buy a new tire nor wake jamie up, but i’m just so grateful to have such a wonderful man in my life who i can count on. he’s the sweetest.
on days far from now, i can relive these weekends when i read this post! they were such fun. xoxo
