back when jamie and i were long distance, i had seen the idea of “open when” letters on pinterest, and i decided to make some for jamie in hopes that it would make our next goodbye a tiny bit less terrible. the goodbye still sucked [of course], but it was fun to surprise jamie with them before i left. i probably had even more fun making the letters than he had reading them [lol] but it was a sweet way to let him know that i cared and was thinking about him.
i bought blank cards and envelopes at target and used black sharpies [fine-point and regular] to write and draw on them. i copied the designs for a bunch of mine from a picture of “open when” letters on pinterest, which unfortunately was a stolen link so i’m not going to link it here, but you’ll probably see it if you start searching for “open when” letters on pinterest. and then i added my own versions too, like “open when it’s christmas,” and i fashioned them in a similar design as the others. slip in some sweet letters [and maybe some drawings, confetti, etc. if you want], and you’re done!
i gave jamie the whole stack on the sunday that i left his house with the “open now” letter on top, which had instructions for the letters; for example, don’t open all at once!!! here are my envelopes if you want to see them:
just a fun idea to get your creativity flowing! it’s the little things that get you through. xoxo
