so i’m not one to normally do outfit posts. i usually do one a year, whether i need to or not. [i totally don’t need to.] let me tell you a little about my relationship with fashion: i like keeping up with it, in your average girly-girl sort of way. i don’t know allllll the designers and their collections or anything like that, but i know some – probably just enough to be dangerous. to be completely honest, i really don’t like spending a ton of money on individual articles of clothing, purses, shoes, jewelry, etc., and rarely splurge on something i wear. i look out for deals and am not afraid of thrift stores, second-hand stores, off-the-rack stores, anything like that. in fact, i LOVE them. it’s like a treasure hunt for me.
and finally, i have a thing for sparkle. always have. [i come by it naturally thanks to my mom and mimi. ever heard that cute quote “she leaves a bit of sparkle wherever she goes?” well, they are the sparkle. if you know them, you know exactly what i mean.] and what better time of year for a little glitz than the holidays? i’ve picked up a few festive pieces over the years that have served me well, time and time again [and they haven’t broke the bank, either]. that’s the thing about holiday wear – you might wear it once or twice a year, so it stays in mint condition and lasts forEVER. and sparkles never go out of style. :) yep, those holiday pieces are always my favorite clothes of all time, and i think that if there’s one time of year that i do fashion decently, it’s this time of year. and then i just want to do outfit posts so i can put all that sparkle to good use! so allow me to indulge myself and show you what i’m wearing this holiday season. i couldn’t choose just one outfit, so you get a whole lookbook of ideas. you may see one or two repeats from this holiday outfit post that i did two years ago, but most of it will be new and different, and hopefully it might inspire your holiday wardrobe a bit and encourage you to bring out your own sparkle this season.
but before we get to today’s outfit, here are a few things that i discovered in the photo shoot portion of this little exercise:
1. i am no model.
2. don’t take photos on extremely windy days.
3. the wind will redeem itself slightly by making you look like a porn star in exactly 1 out of the 382,985,344 photos that you took.
4. the rest of the time you will look like cousin itt from the addams family.
5. the first twenty minutes will be extremely frustrating/discouraging/unenjoyable as you curse your amateur photography skills, your lack of a camera remote, your body, the wind, your hair, and anything else you can think of to blame.
6. but then you will actually start having fun once you get the hang of it/stop caring.
7. thank God for cropping & editing.
8. i am no model.
9. but it’s kind of fun pretending.
10. that is all.
now that we have that settled, onto the outfit of today! we’re starting out casual and tame, and the outfits will gradually get more fancy and festive…
this is definitely a casual look, something you could wear just about anywhere, but a toned-down hint of sparkle makes it subtly festive. i don’t know if you can tell from the photos, but the knit sleeves, sides, and collar of the shirt have some silver sparkle to them, and i paired it with some glitzy jewelry. yet the outfit is still sinfully comfy, thanks to those stretchy black pants that feel like leggings!
the shirt is zara, although i got it at clotheshorse anonymous, a nice second-hand clothing store in north dallas. my pants are sts blue and my boots are miz moos, and i got both at nordstrom rack. the earrings are betsey johnson, again from nordstrom rack [can you tell what my favorite store is?!], i unfortunately can’t remember who made the necklace but it was on sale at nordstrom, and the bracelets are a bunch of different glitzy bangles that i’ve acquired over the years from different places. you can never have too many sparkly bangles, right?
this faux fur vest from francesca’s goes nicely with the shirt if it’s a bit chilly, and i always love these types of vests anyway because they hide all imperfections [like that extra cookie that you know you didn’t need].
be on the lookout for the next holiday outfit, coming tomorrow!
