as you all know, i’m going to culinary school at night, sort of for my job because it is definitely relevant and rounds out my food background, and sort of for fun because i don’t have to do it for my career but it has been on my bucket list forever and it was inevitable that it was going to happen eventually.
i can only take one class per semester since i have full-time job and i’m trying to stay sane and also keep my weight below 200 lbs [i’m laughing now, but i don’t know how much i’ll be laughing by the time i graduate…].
i took fundamentals of baking this spring [endearingly known to us culinary students as “fun bake”], and those of you who follow me on instagram [@jessicakojder – there’s my shameless plug] know that i post A LOT of pictures of the food we make in culinary school and have probably already seen most of these photos. but i wanted to make your mouths water again, so…
{the first thing we made in culinary school: cookies, of course! chocolate chip…}
{more chocolate chippers}
{peanut butter cookies}
{spritz cookies}
{spritz cookies are as tasty as they are cute!}
{lemony hazelnut biscotti}
{…and brownies!}
{banana nut bread}
{lotsa loaves}
{icebox cookies – cinnamon and chocolate, swirls and marbles}
{our take-home… see what i’m in for?!}
{a spinach salad made by the advanced food prep class. made me feel healthier. for a second.}
{blueberry muffins}
{scones with cranberries and cherries}
{soft rolls and CINNAMON BUTTER. makes already delicious hot bread from the oven taste like heaven.}
{a butter sandwich, no big deal}
{pan bread}
{french bread}
{our cinnamon rolls were only okay, but our garlic cheddar biscuits were quite possibly the best biscuits i have ever tasted.}
{another random picture of something delicious shared with us by the advanced food prep class}
{cornbread with jalapenos, onions, and cheddar}
{learning how to braid challah bread!}
{challah bread sprinkled with kosher salt}
{doughnut making}
{cake doughnuts!}
{we rolled our cake doughnuts in powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar}
{glazed yeast doughnuts – chef said ours were the best he’d tasted that day}
{a random glazed twist and a box o’ donuts}
{midterm: peanut butter cookies and banana nut muffins}
and that gets us through the first half of the class. part two coming soon!
